My previous car I used a small metal edged ice scraper, similar to the below photo. Extremely popular on Amazon. Never had any issues, but after doing it once on my GTI I noticed very faint lines in the morning, as if I had damaged/dug into some kind of film. The water rolls down and hits these lines and it acts as an invisible barrier. When it's 100% clean they are totally invisible, but when frost builds up you can see where they are.
Does anyone know if there is some kind of film on the front windshield that can be damaged, and is so, how it can be repaired. Thanks!
