Well that makes me significantly less excited about this upgrade. Do you happen to have the part number to the MIB2 unit I would need to get? Mine is glitching out anyway so maybe I should replace that as well.

How do you update it if its already MIB 2? What do you need?
Non-Nav - 3Q0035844A
Nav - 3Q0035876A - 3Q0035876B

Basically it is the same part number as the unit you already have, the newer ones will just have an "A" or "B" at the end.

It will be very expensive to swap from MIB2 to MIB2 just to get the "app" button to work. You will need the new brain and then have component protection removed and pay to have your current FeC's swapped over.

Good find. Mine is up and running. Ended up with a dark gray trim from china and looks much better than the piano black in regards to how it matches up with the GTI trim.

Hi,

Came a across this this thread as I'm looking to upgrade. really useful information.

I'm still a bit confused as to what the difference is between the 2 part numbers/screens

5G6919605A and 5G6919605B.
Can someone just clarify.
Apologise in advance if this was asked before.

no difference, the "B" model is just newer. probably released with a new model year car, if there are any internal changes they are not discernible to the user.

edit: correction, I was wrong I was thinking of "A" and "C" model numbers, which are the same. Actually "A" and "C" are for screens without Nav and "B" and "D" have Nav. See below:

5G6919605A - 5G6919605C - 8" Glass Touchscreen Display (w/o Nav)
5G6919605B - 5G6919605D - 8" Glass Touchscreen Display (w/ Nav)

I have a '15 with 5G0035876 (w/ Nav) that I just want to upgrade the screen or unit to have CarPlay - I am assuming I have the MIB1.
I don't need the factory Nav, frankly, don't want it. Which part would I have to upgrade? I don't mind "downgrading" as long as I have the option of CarPlay. I know EZT has the whole complete upgrade kit but I am not spending that kind of money.

if you have mib1 you will need to upgrade to an MIB2 infotainment brain. The DIY section has a really thorough how-to, consisting of multiple users experiences. In short, brain, screen, and the usb connector with appropriate wiring are needed. You can get these used from various channels (ebay, here in the classifieds, etc). Then you have to get someone who's experienced with the coding bit to remove the component protection and reinstall the appropriate software bits (including carplay!). All in, it's doable for well under $1k if you're patient.
