I don't have a vagcom cable, but maybe the dealer will be willing to check for the codes. My service advisor has the same car so he's been fairly helpful with other issues. I'll probably wait and see if it happens again and try to read the whole message. I'll try driving in manual mode more to see if I can trigger it as well.

Are they replacing your shifter? Hopefully that fixes it for you.

Yep they are replacing my shifter assembly. The problem with getting the dealers to scan for the code is, you may be going to the dealer quite frequently before they will see a stored fault. My error message occurred probably 10+ times before it stored a code.

Best of luck to you.

Checking in... did the shifter assembly fix your issue? Was getting the error messages more frequently, and it has been staying on long enough to read now. Took it by the dealer yesterday and they pulled a handful of codes. Looks like most are the same ones you had. They want me to bring it back and leave it another day so they can diagnose the problem.

Yep it seemed to have fix my problem. Haven't had the error pop back up since they replaced it.

I still get this error intermittently. I now have a Ross-Tech VCDS cable and found the following error:
Address 16: Steering wheel
1 Fault Found:
617752 - Selector Lever Park Position Lock Switch
B1162 29 [008] - Signal Implausible
Intermittent - Confirmed - Tested Since Memory Clear
Freeze Frame:
Fault Status: 00000001
Fault Priority: 2
Fault Frequency: 4
Reset counter: 236
Mileage: 18909 km
Date: 2016.07.26
Time: 11:52:20

I can clear the error but it comes back.

Should I talk to the dealer at this point?

Same issue here, also DSG. I am tuned. Anyone tuned and have issues with dealer? I will flash back to stock if needed. I get the error almost twice a week.

If you have this error you should take it in and get it fixed. If you are lucky it is storing the code for you. If it's not it may take a few trips to the dealer to get it fixed. Flash back to stock before taking it to the dealer every time.

I'm having this annoying issue as well. Glad someone was able to get a pic of the display because I never could read it up until a week ago when it stayed on about a second longer. Started about 2 months ago and seems to be happening more frequently now. I will refer to this thread when I go in. I also have the click, click, click noise when changing hot to cold or vise versa. Must be a relay going bad. My GTI is falling apart.:)

Not to resurrect a dead thread but I just had this same message pop up on my car for a split second yesterday. I also saw the lock switch signal implausible fault code was stored using the scan function on OBD11. Going in for inspection some time this month and I'll bring it to their attention.

I have had this same issue for a few months now as well. The error message was only staying on for a few seconds, so not long enough to get a picture.

I took it to the dealership where then found several codes related to the DSG. They were not familiar with the codes and asked me to come back another day to leave it for diagnosis. They logged the codes and cleared it. I decided to wait until the error message to come back before I took it back to the dealer. A few weeks later, it came back while I was taking a road trip, of course. I took the car in yesterday, and they ended up replacing the shifter assembly, as they did for others here. I'm hoping that's the end of it:)

I also had the clicking issue a few months after getting the car. The noise was coming from behind the glovebox on the passenger side and happened when the recirculate changed from on to off. They replaced the recirculate flap motor for that one. They said they had seen a few of those cases, and it was because the plastic gear stripped.

You should take it in if it's still under warranty. VW appears to be aware of both of these issues, and was willing to fix under warranty.

Had the dealer do the fix last week. Took two visits, diagnostic scan, then bring the car back when the parts came in. Haven't seen the error since.

Started getting the error in the last two days. How serious a problem is this and is the car safe to drive given a faulty Shifter Assembly? Is the Shifter just sending a faulty signal to the ECU and the car is actually fine? Either way I will get it looked into but just curious as to the severity, thanks.

It doesn't seem to have any effect on how the car runs. I believe it is just a malfunctioning switch.

Do you have access to VCDS? If so do a scan and look for:
Address 16: Steering wheel
1 Fault Found:
617752 - Selector Lever Park Position Lock Switch
B1162 29 [008] - Signal Implausible.

That is what will trigger them replacing the shifter mechanism. Not sure why it's a steering wheel fault.

It is not dangerous to my knowledge but I wouldn't wait on getting it fixed. Mine was repaired under warrenty this week.
