A body shop replaced the Adaptive light module (and DRL unit) and now they don't move and the cornering lights are out too. The OBD11 says the module needs to be coded and shows error 17178. They claim its an OEM VW part. (The original module was water damaged from the broken lens.) I tried to reset it and do a calibration but the OBD11 wouldnt let me.
Any ideas? The body shop has a "calibration guy" who's going to look at it but I may have to call my insurance since they're covering it.

I would let your insurance company know about the problem and that you might have to go to a dealer to get it coded properly just so you're protected and still get the insurance company to cover it.

I hit a deer and had the same thing. The body shop I went to had me take it to a VW dealer for them to code it so they worked. I paid for it at VW and the body shop reimbursed me after words.

Slave modules likely need to be coded. You can pull up your old reference scans, to see how they were prevously coded, and then code. The reason we do reference scans is so when modules are replaced we can recode. For my car the slave modules codes are 2E000. You can also look for reference scans of non-broken cars at Ross Tech: https://forums.ross-tech.com/index.php?forums/45/

I remember when I swapped my NA LP headlights for Euros I had to recode. From what I read on other threads, you don't actually have to change the value of long coding, but just hitting apply and saving it again will do the trick. Maybe it applies here.
