EQT Standard LPFP Not Reading a Full Tank

Just installed an EQT LPFP into my GTI on Tuesday (I had my shop do it since I was being lazy). The fuel gauge was at the same level after install and was going down after that. So I filled up and the gauge only went up to the line between full and 7/8 of a tank. I drove about 25 miles or so and it was going down again. So I filled up again just in case the gas attendant didn’t actually fill up my tank (here in NJ we aren’t allowed to pump our own gas). But it didn’t go up all the way again. Photo below shows the highest the fuel gauge will go. I am planning on getting the gas low again to check to make sure nothing is blocking the sensor floater arm. But some people on the EQT Facebook group said this is not unusual even when the sensor is not blocked and some of them had not had it red a full tank since install. I just wanted some feedback from this group to see what experiences are here. Once I check in a check in a week or so I’ll know if it was blocked but wanted to post here already. Thanks for any feedback.

I don't have the EQT version of the LPFP but I have a modified RS3 pump, which I think the EQTs are, maybe?

Either way, like you said the level sensor might be hung up on some wiring, or is hitting something on the way up so that it does not float to the top of the tank with the rest of the fuel. Mine sometimes reads full when it's full, sometimes reads as low as 7/8 when full, and it drops dramatically through the first half of a tank of fuel before slowing down and presumably reading more accurately for the second half. Then it reads empty well before the stock LPFP would (I still have 3+ gallons when the refuel light comes on).

I decided not to mess with it. I refuel when it tells me to and fill ups are a little cheaper than before because they're a little smaller.

It's definitely the floater arm sensor and sounds like it's a common EQT issue, which doesn't surprise me. I would return it to get a refund, if you can, and buy a LPFP from a reputable shop like Pag Parts or Precision Raceworks.

Well, not sure I can return it. But I will see what I can do and hopefully this will get resolved. Otherwise, the car is driving great.

You think you’re getting an OEM pump from them? Their LPFPs are on the slow boat with their turbos.

$50 fuel pumps gonna $50 fuel pump.

insane to trust a critical part to aftermarket bullshit. an OEM LPFP is way cheaper than a new motor.

So this pump is going to fail? Haven’t seen anything about one failing. Do all aftermarket LPFPs fail? First time dealing with this.

likelihood of it failing is much higher. It's a chinese replica of the OEM pump, purchased en masse for maximum markup.

The EQT fake RS3 pumps don't seem to have the same capacity as a RS3 pump either. Don't think you're getting an RS3 pump. you're NOT.
