EQT E-Tuning Q&A

I purchased my Stage 2 tune and received it extremely quickly, thanks to Patrick. I did purchase a used Cobb and had a hardtime getting my tune to load however it turned out all I had to do was update the firmware on the Cobb and I was able to load my tune (Thanks Patrick) thats just some advise incase someone else runs into the same issue.

I would highly advise anyone to try running the Cobb tunes for 2 or 3 days prior to installing their EQT tune just to see how smooth the EQT tune is compared to the pre-installed Cobb tune. I am very happy with my tune the only downer I can think of is that I opted for Burbles and find them pretty weak in comparison to my Old Mk6 Gti with a Stratified tune, I am running pretty much a straight pipe into the factory rear muffler currently however just need to install my new valved borla to see if it adds any volume.

Anyone on the fence about the tune dont be its well worth it hence all the positive comments

Well. Im not happy with the amount of knock retard I am also seeing on EQT OTS stage 1. I'm in the same camp that at stage 1 that is tuned for 91 octane, I shouldn't need to go find octane boosters or E85 (which is not available anywhere near me). I dont really see the point if thats the case. At any rate, here are three logs. Hoping to get your opinions but I already know it doesn't look good.

This car is meticulously maintained so I don't think it is maintenance related. It has 48 000 km and I just installed new RS7 plugs gapped to 0.026" as well. I do believe it is fuel quality related. This car has only ever been filled up with Shell 91. Never anything else, so I have that going for me.

You should consider getting a protune with EQT so they can dial it in specifically for your fuel. Plus you'll be getting a completely optimized tune that way.

I understand your point and I'll consider it but I still think its stupid that that may end up being the solution. Didnt really want to spend all that extra cash when maybe they can dial the 91 tune back a bit so that were not all detonating our engines apart on what is supposed to be a fairly mild remap.

Tighten up your spark plug gap first. I think eqt said .024 but can't double-check right now. Also with your kr that's fuel issue for sure. He shouldn't have to dial back the tune that much for one person that can't get decent fuel

I agree with mopar22. Reduce the plug gap. I have a dyno tune but to run more timing I had to regap to .020 and that is the RS7 plugs also.

Does your part of canada have the ethanol free or the 15% ethanol fuel or whatever? I remember seeing/reading some stuff about this from the Stratified pages. I can't remember the exact details, but it was like part of the area had really good (15% eth) fuel and the other was really crappy. If it's the ethanol free or low ethanol 91 then that is likely the reason it's not performing as expected. One of the worst pump gas' out there apparently.

Sorry guys. I gapped them to 0.024 not 0.026. I did exactly what they recommended but was just going by my poor memory. If you read around, I'm not the only one with possible poor fuel quality and similar issues. I also wonder how many people are running around not even knowing.

Yes we have ethanol free 91. Well at least Shell does. I'm surprised to hear that its that bad.

So no ethanol in the gas at all in your area? And to your other post there's a lot of guys running an OTS tune without knowing about what knock retard they have. You could also use Torco octane booster. It wouldn't take much to raise your octane level a couple of points and then check the knock retard.

Just the 91 at Shell here doesnt have any ethanol. 87 and 89 have 10 or 15% or something like that. I'm gonna have to go look at other stations to see if their 91 octane fuels have ethanol. That I'm not sure about.

Try other stations too, some cars just don't like shell from what i've seen
