Yes its the piano black. I guess it would be an option I need to look at. Overlays would be cheesy, and sourcing piano black pieces is way less expensive than cf.

So, moving on with the IS38 in and loving the lighter weight wheels, I started thinking again about how I wanted the GTI to look and flow with the contrasting matte graphite wheels. This brought me to realize there was a lot of pieces overall to make this look come together. I decided to start with two big pieces of the silver and carbon fiber theme. You guessed it, cf hood and fenders. I debated for a while on the fenders on whether to get the oem width or the wide version. I really liked that the wide version had the vents, and knew later it would work with the theme, plus they are real vents. Made the order and actually waited for around a month for them to show up.

Literally the same day I got the hood and fenders on, I was suddenly made to realize my GTi now had a look. Driving home just cruising down the highway, people were just randomly taking photos. Other cars would spot me, and speed up to get beside me to say hey or thumbs up or whatever. It was pretty cool, and still is. I got to thinking, man I'm putting my window down a lot to wave back or thumbs up other cool cars when they are next to me, and here I have this OEM steering wheel. So I decided a custom wheel was the next item, and with that I started looking around. I found this guy on FB call ZenCarbon. I liked his wheels, so I hit him up. He took my order down to be of a cf wheel at the top and bottom, and gray perforated leather on the sides. I waited a while for this wheel which was annoying, but it eventually showed up and on it went. Pulling the OEM wheel buttons off was a bit tricky, as the plastic clips feel more brittle than a toothpick. I used a plastic laptop spudger tool and a flat blade pick, kind of resembles a precision screwdriver like you use on glasses or something, only its longer. I had ZenCarbon tint the cf sections in a glitter red, and it looks pretty cool. It's different and that was the goal.

I was with you with the CF wheel, then you said leather & i was utterly confused how leather wheels can stand up to the elements, not to mention mounting and unmounting tires.

My blonde moment

I want to insert this question here, so as not to clutter up the other threads on this much deliberated topic. - Engine/tranny upgraded mounts. It's been on my brain for a while because when I checked them a month ago, they are looking rather worn. I didn't look any closer out of fear of what I would see. With that being said my car still feels the same vibration-wise. Ideally I want the so called discontinued Super Pro kit, but this place seems to have it? My phone is not letting me call Canada to verify in-stock or not. Here is a link https://comotorsports.ca/superpro-engine-mount-kit-aud-vw-mqb-trc2001-comotors.html

Also looking at the Revo kit, which actually looks quite nice. Anyone know anybody running it? Ideally I need to do this mod before I abuse my stock mounts further with an even bigger turbo. This mod is kind of a gatekeeper, I need to get it figured out and done so that other shit can happen lol. I don't want BFI, I rode in a GTI with BFI mounts and holy hell no thank you lol. Not sure what stage they were.

I can't even feel my BFI mounts. Maybe got used to them. Not sure. If you're in Austin ever, welcome to ride in my car.

Also have an extra BFI dogbone. I think V2. Been sitting in my garage forever. If you want it, let me know. I'll have to find it of course

I had asked about this not long ago in my thread, and the overwhelming response was BFI, though someone said they had the CTS ones which they liked but felt were a very mild upgrade over stock (looking at their design this makes sense).

Man I was literally in Austin this past Saturday with the wife and her two sisters. We were at Brushy Creek doing this 5k walk thing. Afterwards we ate the Snooze cafe? Great food, long wait to get in. If I could get that dogbone from ya I will put it to use.

Uh oh- I got potential trouble. Was coming back to work from lunch break and was going over the highway overpass, turning left onto feeder road. The light was green so I was in second gear, made the turn and gave her some throttle and all of sudden the check engine light started flashing and I heard a few pops from the exhaust. I did not have noisy mode enabled. I let off the throttle and the check light went away and I drove her easy the last couple miles to work. Popped the hood and noticed a weird smell but Im not sure what it is. Didnt see anything leaking other than A/C condensation dripping in the usual spot. I'll have to scan codes after work and I plan to just limp it home.

Misfire? Order coils and plugs? The coils are the original, the plugs are Ruth's and have around 20k on them I think.

You're tuned on SimosTools right? Momentary flashing CEL is typically indicative of knock detection. I wouldn't start ordering anything until scanning codes, but if you have misfires logged I'd pull the plugs and have a look/check gaps- at 20k they're probably due to be replaced if I had to guess.

Yes Im on ST. I have my OBD11 in the car (thank god). When I get ready to leave work I will scan codes first.

Ok scanned codes before I left work, them babied her all the way home, despite having no engine faults.
