Noon question about apr intake and turbo boost numbers.

Hey guys, I have gti 2019 se 6MT. Recently picked up a second handed apr intake system for my baby. I bought a new filter and installed it with no issues. After the first drive, first thing I noted was that the sound is indeed sick, loud turbo noise which I what I was looking for. The second thing I noted under the sport infotainment is that now I'm pulling 30+ psi?! LOL idk if this is accurate or not but is this something to be worried about? These numbers seem high

Because atmospheric pressure is not always 14.7. As such, they would need to somehow determine atmospheric pressure and then subtract it. They could just assume 14.7.... but.... yeah....

All they needed to do is include a barometric pressure sensor?

Costs money. Think about how many golfs/GTIs/R's/Alltracks/Sportwagens/etc. are sold not just in the US but around the world. If they have a sensor, they'd need to have the ECU read it, then have the ECU do something with the value (subtract it from the absolute), and then display it. That's hardware, software, and another piece to install during assembly.

Actually, the ECU knows what atmospheric pressure is (at least when the car is started). It's just not shown in the head unit. If there isn't a separate sensor, it likely takes the MAP reading a split second before you fire up the engine.

You basically said the car needed some way to determine what atmospheric pressure was, I was just stating how it could be done. Haha.. Not saying the bean counters would like it.

Do you guys have boost gauges installed?
I inquired at the my VW dealer, they balked at it saying it would void the manifold...yet they did my APR tune.
Is this just regular CYA related to mods or should I not consider this mod?

I know why it can be useful, I have one. I was asking you specifically, not the general you (us).
I was thinking it might be a good idea since the car is stage 2

The better boost taps punch a hole in the intake manifold. I can see why they would pause at that. The APR tune is pretty solid and tested. If something goes wrong, they blame APR. If they crack your manifold installing the boost tap, its on them.

If that's the case, then I guess somehow it was somehow cheaper to not show it. Or... it's going to be a feature in the MK8. Now shows PSIG instead! :p
