Dsg right hand paddle

Hi all.. Does anyone know why the right hand dsg gear paddle has + and off...

(+) to shift up , the left hand one has a (-) on it to shift down, and if you hold it it for a second or so, then OFF, switches the anual mode OFF, so you are back to good old auto shifting.

I found this video about DSG from a older GTI model.. I would think it should be the same. If you guys who have the R can point out any differences that would be cool

What I do is put it in S, when it starts to rev too high just hold the right paddle, it upshifts and then goes back to S mode.

A simple tap up does the same on the 7R...no need to hold it, it will go automatically back to auto mode

I found this video about DSG from a older GTI model.. I would think it should be the same.

No its different now - on the earlier cars to go from Normal auto (D) to Sport mode (S) you needed to press the release button on the shift stick and pull it back in to the Sport detent. On the Mk.7 there is no need to press the release button and the shift lever is spring-loaded defaulting to D/S so to select S you need only pull it back and allow it to spring back forward in to D/S. In other words D and S are in the same location and you just toggle between them

This is a huge improvement and makes S selection so much simpler - particularly good for people who, like me, use as for engine braking when approaching junctions etc.
