DSG Gearbox Bearing fault

Be careful because it sounds like the dealer is guessing at the problem.
Make absolutely certain that's the correct diagnosis before proceeding. And if it does turn out to be that bad and a replacement gearbox is needed - I'd trade it in before throwing $5k at a 77k-mile car.
This x1000. Make ABSOLUTELY sure you're confident of the diagnosis, and not just the stealership. I once brought my mkv to the stealership for a fuel related misfire. They thought it was the HPFP (expensive) and I thought it was the LPFP (cheap). I deferred to their opinion against my own intuition and common sense practice of trying the cheap solutions first before resorting to expensive solutions. Turns out I was right, and wasted $500 on a HPFP rebuild.

I also just had my thrust bearing fail on me and had to contact VW Customer Care and they're paying for 75% of my engine replacement. It can't hurt to contact them, just make sure you have any service records you can ready.

My indie shop ran the car on the lift and used a stethoscope to determine the noise was coming from the DSG vs a wheel bearing, etc. They advised taking to dealer to see if DSG could be replaced under powertrain warranty. Dealer diagnosed the DSG needs replacement, No codes were present, diagnosis based on noise symptoms. They dont open or repair DSGs, they replace them.

Thought I would report back with an update.

Managed to find a DSG specialist over here in the UK.

Gearbox rebuilt (got see the worn bearings) along with a new Clutch and Flywheel for under £2K after 5 days off the road.

Very happy so far.

Yes I could have looked for a fast trade in. The big worry was how long it was going to last.

This way the pressure is off.

By the way, the Dealership never came back to me.
