Driver's side door mirror replacement

Was driving my 2015 Golf R on the freeway today at around 80 MPH when the truck in front of me either kicked up or lost a heavy object out of its bed.
Next thing I know, I see this object in the air coming at me, and WHAM. Driver's side door mirror is gone (pics attached).

The few body shops I contacted me quoted USD 800-900 to replace it.
Is there any alternative? Something I could do myself? I'm not very handy at all, but I'm sure there are Youtube videos for everything these days.
My regular mechanic said he can't help since the cap needs to be painted.
$800 seems like an absolute ripoff for a mirror replacement.

You can replace it yourself if it was just the mirror that was damaged.

What Trim/Add ons does your car have? Do you have DAP?

Basic mirror looks like it'll run you 300ish for everything:

Installing the mirror is easy, just need to pop off the inner door cover, remove the wire connections and a few bolts, then repull the wire/stopper for the new mirror and reconnect/reassemble in reverse. Was pretty easy when I upgraded to AliExpress power folding mirrors.

That's good to hear that replacement was relatively easy. What mirror caps did you use? It seems the caps alone are 100-200 bucks.

I don't have DAP, and in terms of add-ons, the vehicle is basically stock.

I used my stock Caps and swapped the White caps that came with the Ali mirrors. The cap might be the most expensive thing depending on where you purchase from. 🤷‍♂️

Here are the ECS install instructions for the power folding kit. Would be the same install for you, just no coding.

Edit: And no swapping of the mirror switch.

Thanks a lot for linking the instructions - those are extremely helpful!!
Looks like I may be able to buy the full assembly (used) from someone who recently replaced their OEM mirrors for the foldable ones, like you.

If you want to upgrade - Depending on if you have highline door controllers already, this is the folding mirror kit I used and it's worked great so far:
https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32843343512.html?spm=a2g0s.9042311.0.0.27424c4dNXvtty

175 might be a savings over stock OEM.
Sequential blinkers I went with:

I also have my stock mirrors, but their for GSW so not sure if they'd fit for you.

Might be worth asking around local paint shops what they'd charge to respray a white/black mirror cap in your color code too. Maybe come out cheaper than buying an OEM pre-sprayed. 🤷‍♂️

I had to replace the one on Mrs Mud's CRV. Rock Auto was stupid cheap about $35 delivered complete assy with powered glass (not folding). Golfs are very common worldwide so there is a good chance they are also cheap. If unpainted pick your color for cap and rattle can it.
