When you take the dashtrim off, you can see all the surfaces where plastic can rub against other surfaces, either from the car dash or other plastic trim pieces. Temperature based expansion will also cause creaks, at least in my car and driving over bumps or rough road surfaces. The dash trim is clicked inside metal spring-loaded clips and I placed the tape over every plastic piece that goes in those clips. Also the back of every trim piece that touches other areas has now a small thin piece of this tape. I didn't take photos of this process but used tape whereever possible l, without it becoming visible when looking at the dash. The tape is thin enough that it will stay inside the metal spring loaded clips without causing space restrictions. This is a great tip! Where did you use this on yours? Which plastic to plastic areas? Trying to visualize where exactly. I'll definitely be doing this when I install it on mine.
I also used this tape for the sunglass cubby, the sunroof, the arm rest and the glove box. It is black so you don't see it, but it prevents rattling and creaking quite effectively. There are several blogs and YouTube videos on specific GTI rattles and every generation has its own unique issues with that. It just bugs me beyond belief and this tape really helped.
