The HIRIOT digital dash seller on AliExpress provided feedback. A newer firmware exists but they only recommend it if there are bugs. So I asked a few questions and hope to receive a response soon.

Just for clarification, during wireless screen mirroring, you can switch the phone display off while the mirrored screen in the dash remains visible. When using the USB cable with that tricky apk, the screen in the dash will go black if you switch off the display on the phone. And you have to switch it off to conserve the battery.

Would be great if they fixed the Audi gauges. I can’t imagine it would be very hard.

You guys could also solve the RPM problem via TDI engine swap .
I like that suggestion just as good, as HIRIOT's feedback regarding the AliExpress digital cluster firmware update! 🤣

To be fair, all mobile phone OS's are released with bugs....

Haha... so they are saying that the current software has bugs, and the new software also has bugs...
but if the bugs in the current software are not a problem for you then do not risk it with the new bugs .

Good to see they are updating the software, I wonder how users of older clusters can get these updates too. I contacted the seller through AliExpress but have not heard back. But either way I'm happy with my cluster as is.

It looks indeed that there may be an HDMI port under that sticker but based on the seller feedback that you received, I'm just letting it be for now. Hope your fault will be addressed by adding the speaker back in!
Reinstalling the speaker got rid of the error and now I can hear my turn signals again. Only took me 30 minutes total :)

Hi, I found these 2 videos on how android auto/apple carplay mirroring works:
from what I understand the seller must provide a connection box that connects to android auto on the MIB USB and has an HDMI output and I see that it also has another USB perhaps to connect the smartphone and activate android auto.
I think it is a kind of splitter box that intercepts the video and sends it to the digital display

UPDATE: i have found the seller and all the product needed to complete the configuration:

They responded and it looks like they won't or they can't fix the gear shift warning point. So either ignore that red flashing at 3000 rpm or like @Cuzoe said, swap a diesel engine in your GTI 🤣

That is interesting, but it does require a working hdmi connection on the display, something mine (HIRIOT) does not appear to have. There is an hdmi connection on the cluster, but apparently not working and for debug only, according to HIRIOT. I guess I could uninstall my cluster and check if that hdmi connection does anything, but that's for another time when the weather gets cooler again

After going back and reading the different vendors to get these clusters I noticed that the one that the OP got has the option to enable the logo for a GTI, R, or none. But others don't have this. I wonder what other differences there are feature wise between the ones that have been purchased on this thread? This might be a tough one to answer unless anyone had any experience in installing different versions in their car.

Oh one thing I should have done at the time that installed this cluster: I should have treated the plastic to plastic 'rubbing' areas with that thin cloth tape since it helps prevent creaking sounds. I have done this recently by removing the dash trim again and oh boy, what a difference that makes!
Here is the stuff that I'm using in all plastic to plastic areas, to prevent (and solve) creaking sounds.

This is a great tip! Where did you use this on yours? Which plastic to plastic areas? Trying to visualize where exactly. I'll definitely be doing this when I install it on mine. (y)
