@DV52 or someone else who may know coding very well. All is perfect with the MIB2.5 setup including CP removal. Because my MIB2.5 unit came out of an Atlas SEL R-Line it still has some leftover programming I can't seem to un-code. See some VCDS errors below and someone let me know where/what to poke around under to get this all error-free. I realize the Sat radio error is due to not being activated.

Happy 2020 Don! No, I didn't see your reply over on the VCDS forums. Heading over there now to take a look. ;)

Thanks,

This might be a bit too ambitious for me, but I just wanted to thank the OP a for such a fantastic, well written DIY. Many thanks for doing it!

Hello All! And Happy 4th of July to people in America!

I am currently in the process of gathering the parts necessary to perform this upgrade from my 6.5” unit to the 8” unit. I have a 2018 GTI S and I have ordered most of the parts and hopefully will get them within the next month. I wanted to double check some things as I still unsure about a couple things.

It mainly resolves around the component protection, CarPlay/Bluetooth/Voice activation, and vcds VAG COM.

While I was reading through this guide and the others linked in this post, I see that even after switching the equipment out that some things were not functioning. I wanted to see if “quailallstar” or “stuntnuts” if you were able to have your setups 100% working, like the Rear-view camera, carplay, USB connection etc. And how you were able to fix the issues you had.

What problems did you have to visit the dealer for or use vcds VAG COM to fix anything or have Jack fix the issues? I’m a little worried about the component protection and the FEC activation portion of things as I don’t think the dealership that I normally go to is necessarily Mod Friendly but I guess I will find out once I go if I have to.

I haven’t used VAG COM since my ’03 Golf TDI many years ago so I honestly don’t know what it does anymore or what its need for in this application. What things are needed for it? And does anyone have any recommendations for what cable to use as I currently don’t have one anymore…

I do plan to get the Helix sound system in the future like quailallstar, were there any issues having the Helix sound system?

For reference I am going to be going with the NON-NAV setup way so I picked up the below parts.

3Q0 035 844 B (from a 2018 atlas)

5G6-919-605-C (from a 2019 golf I think?)

Looking forward to your responses, thanks!

Easiest to work through Jack tbh. Dealerships don't really know what they're doing once you start swapping stuff out. When i did CP and mib2 swap on mine, they literally were using the forums here to figure out what to do.

Dealerships can typically handle the Comp Protection removal if you can manage the install and necessary rewiring. It shouldn't be as much of an issue since your VIN has all the appropriate FECs currently, but it's a big should tbh, and i'm more interested in working with someone interested and familiar with the goal of the project.

Thanks for your reply, I reached out to Jack and he provided me with the information of what I need for him to do his job.

For anyone wondering you'll need

vas 5054a +
d-link dub e-100 +
ethernet cable +
sd card +
windows pc with teamviewer installed

After looking for the VAS 5054a I'm noticing my options of getting one are really limited.

Does anyone know where to source one? Most of the ones are in China with a 2 month turnaround order time....

@stuntnuts Just wanted to thank you for posting this DIY up. I definitely would have not taken this on going in blindly but your DIY made it easy. Now I just need to wait for Jack, no luck in getting a hold of him yet.

Some pictures or tips I thought would be worth adding in

1. I couldn't find where to plug the glove box hose (eventually found it but it took a while). Here's a picture of what it looks like. This is taken down in the footwell from the passenger side. As posted in the DIY, it's covered with a little rubber cap,
IMG_6145.jpg

2. I found that removing this big plastic divider piece made it way easier to fish the quad extension harness to the glove box area. It's held by one screw and about 4 plastic trim snaps

You are welcome. Thank you for having the bravery to attempt it. There's only a VERY select few of us out there.

I just had Jack connect with me last week to remove CP and code in my fec's for my car. The teamviewer application is used for enabling FECs like Carplay, Voice command, performance monitor, etc.

Right, but what exactly did he do? I know he had to have used odis but how did he run odis on your machine?

He runs all the applications and everything on his side, using TeamViewer as the portal to your machine's connections. That's why no one has to download ODIS or other software and you literally only need the cables/connections mentioned.
