I don't remember the carbon texture, haha. I also don't recall how to change the menu type. I think mine is a grid, but also scrolls to a second page. There's an option that's one row with left-right scrolling too, correct?
It's a GTI/GTD thing which probably went with the Mark 7.5, when the interior trim was swapped for the gloss black. When you're looking at my old MIB1 display, you can see the texture of the trim carried through it. The MFD by the speedo is the same:

1623139402417.png

It's difficult to see it on the old 5.8" display due to the crappy resolution - it's easier to see in the dark.

I went through a load of different long-coding options on my OBD11 last night, looking for it, but couldn't find it. It's not a deal breaker but if I can get it to look the way it did before when this is all finished, I would prefer it.

Also, is it possible to change the car that's displayed in the Car menu to look more like mine and less like an SE with the GT alloys on it? I can get an Estate to display by changing the variant etc but it didn't seem to want to change much more than that. I wasn't restarting the 5F every time I coded it though, which could be why...

Yeah I think you have to do the full restart. My MIB II had what looked like a GTI/GTD, a standard Golf, a facelift (7.5) Golf, and then a wagon or two as well... The graphic I have now looks to have the 7.5 Euro tail lights, I'm actually not sure what the front looks like, haha.

I figured as much. It was becoming very time consuming waiting for OBDeleven to reconnect and pull the data through every time but by this stage it was getting late and I gave up.

I've got the Dynaudio HIM startup sticker sorted at least! Just tried that now.. It doesn't flash the GTD badge at start-up first though, it seems to have replaced that with the Dynaudio one (it would flash GTD then Dynaudio then the menu on my MIB1) is that normal/MIB2 behaviour? I'm not actually sure my unit is shutting itself off correctly, it doesn't respond if you push the power button.

All of this just tinkering though, Simaservis gets his hands on it later today so I'm sure all these oddities will get straightened out then.

Yea, he'll get it sorted I'm sure. The Fender/Dynaudio "badge" is in the adaptations as "Startup Sticker" or something like that. The different model badges (GTI/GTD/GTE/e-Golf/etc.) are done in long coding. I just noticed my MIB 2.5 is showing a Powered by Dynaudio sticker, which is incorrect... now you've created work for me, haha. Maybe I'll choose the Family badge as there's nothing for TDI :cautious: .

So, I'm nearly there with my retrofit and I'm really pleased - I get Dolby Atmos audio in my car now and actually, with the Dynaudio speakers, it sounds really good! I've just got a few teething problems to sort and I should be good to go (at least, until Apple finally ditch the lightning port, after which I'm back to square 1...). I'm just waiting on Simaservis getting some configuration files from VW to re-enable the Dynaudio sound pane on the unit so I can get it set back to the way I like it.

I can't seem to get the navigation to appear on the MFD - is this a simple coding change and can it be done using OBD11?

I have a VW Navigation SD Card - it has 2020's last map update on it currently. It works (or at least, it did) until I update it (using Discover Care) but when I do that and put it back in the car, it doesn't recognise it. I've tried using Discover Care and also doing it manually (following the guide document to the letter) but neither process seems to work. To really add insult to injury, Discover Care seems to have f*cked the card entirely now - when it stopped working post-update, I could restore the back-up of it that I took but twice this morning, I've tried that and both times, it's failed. Right at the b*stard end, too...

The card is genuine (P/N 5NA 919 866 S) and when it works, the database on the card is 1310 ECE1 2020. Discover Care attempts to update it to 1410 ECE1 2020/21 - at which point, even though it says it was successful, the unit stops reading the data.

My understanding of this was that the Discover Media units had lifetime support for their Sat Nav databases:

1623313267091.png

Does this only apply to later MIB units, or is this all of them?

Just installed the 8” all glass display and found a new OEM part # for the polar night grey 8” radio trim with vents.. 5G1-819-728-AG-EVO. Got it for $103 from vw parts vortex..

Hey everyone,

another MIB2 retrofitted into mk7! :)

First of all, thanks to @George Ab for renting out his equipment, and thanks to @simaservis1108 for his patience with semi-noobs like me. It's because of people like George and Sima we're still here on this planet!

Brief description of the process!

My car:

2015 Golf TDI with Mib1 and Fender Audio, no USB, 5 inch display

What I needed:

Parts:

Mib2 headunit
[Ebay, $140]
6.5 display [Ebay, $100]
USB+Aux Harness [Ebay, $40]
USB + Aux connector [made a mistake of ordering harness WITHOUT the connector, so had to buy a connector from an official stealereship for $60 - make sure to order yours on AliExpress or Amazon, since you'd save a lot of money, just do it in advance. I decided to spend this money, since I didn't want to wait any longer]

Tools:

Vas5054a
[rented from @George Ab ]
D-Link Dub e100 [rented from @George Ab ]
Dedicated trim keys to remove both MIB headunit and the screen [rented from @George Ab ]
Knife to adjust the harness to fit the new screen - though Dremel tool is preferable
SD Card
Windows-based laptop [
rented from local Rent-A-Center for $20 bucks for a whole week[
LAN cable
SD card reader [
my laptop didn't have an SD card port]
Another Ethernet USB adapter (brand doesn't matter for this one) [bought and returned to Best Buy]
Fiberglass Pull Rods to pull the new harness from the glovebox to the cubby [Harbor Freight, $7]

Process:

Once you got all the right parts and tools, the process is really fast. It's described in the article provided in the starting post of this thread. Just make sure to follow the instructions and don't skip any parts unless you know why you skip them. For example, you'll need to pull the old harness off a block connector in the head unit and replace it with the new one, so make sure you do so; your USB port part number must be one of those that support Carplay - even if you got USB port, you are not guaranteed to have CarPlay; you'll have to cut a few ridges off some of the cables so they fit - nothing crazy (just don't get frustrated if something won't fit - most probably it's just those ridges preventing this, so don't worry).

Like everyone else here says, fishing the cable from the glovebox to the cubby would be the most difficult (relatively) part, but having the fiberglass rods or any other tool would help immensely.

After the physical replacements are done, time to call @simaservis1108, who will do everything for you. Make sure the connection is good, install TeamViewer, and make sure to have ALL of the things I mentioned to avoid having to run back and forth.

DO NOT BUY ANY ACTIVATION CODES
DO NOT GO TO THE DEALERSHIP TO REMOVE CP
DO NOT BUY MIB2 AMP FOR YOUR FENDER - YOUR AMP WILL WORK JUST FINE (UNLESS YOU WANT TO HEAR SOME SEXY SOUND IMPROVEMENTS)
- you'll waste your money.

Just do the replacement and simaservis will take care of the rest.

I'm glad to answer any questions as I have the most recent information about the process as of today! :)

And the by the way these forum semms to dead to me , I had did some research on going through a million webpages of information and analyzing and filtering what I need

Ok, I have 3 more errors to fix in 5F module..
I will post my experience so that someone can find it helpful..

I had mib1(maybe composite media) but with sat nav and Bluetooth with two mic on fenders all factory installed on golf 7 2013 model

And retrofitted with 8 inch screen and mib2 std w/o sat nav

It's a patched unit CP removed on unit everything works including AA, Apple play
Mirrorlink

I went for this option because it was the cheapest

Anyway I had order my 726E usb port

After scheduling issues, a failed VAS and a pretty unprepared n00b (me), simaservis1108 was able to get everything configured for me. Thank you so much! I really love the new system and Carplay is a game changer!
