Anyone willing to part with their OBD2 VAS 5054A+OKI Chip ODIS kit? Would like to buy it. Please PM if so.
Received one of the two $30 eBay units I ordered. It will be returned to sender tomorrow. Minor scuffs on the face plate which I didn't take a picture of, not a big deal because I've only seen the front of my current unit once, when I pulled it out to install the Helix Soundbox.
But as you can see in the pictures this unit has been wet.
I paid $30 on eBay for my infotainment and it's been working beautifully; no freezing or random restarts *knock on wood*So, this is surreal. I think I've only read one account where someone ended up with a functioning unit from that eBay seller. The others all had issues and returned them. I counted at least six of these $30 units being returned just by people on this forum (and there was hearsay about others). How can so many of them "happen" to be defective? I suspect they are selling units that weren't salvaged but rather units that were swapped out because they had issues. Is that even legal?

I have 2 units, with one bought from ebay, and one from another user on here (who i believe also sourced from ebay). It's hit or miss with ebay because they're sold "as-is" typically with the only things being checked while they're sorted for resale is "do they power on, yes or no?" and that's enough to pass for functional. As with all purchases it's "buyer beware" when you're getting a great deal.
I was talking to Don at Technical Retrofit. He mentioned I need the ODIS cable and then he can remote in and do his thing.
Just curious, is this guy able to do what Jack does? If so, has anyone used Don instead of Jack (to remove CP's, put in FeC's and stuff)? As Jack's fee seems to have gone up from 200eur to 300eur, it's good to know if there's any viable alternative out there.
Not sure if the is an accurate representation of fees from mentioned individual. My charge for installation was 80€. I had previously purchased the Car Connect activation code for $240.

I find it likely that the fee cited above is for the purchase of the Car Connect activation code thru the independent from erWin (VW online vehicle diagnostic and reprogramming database called Fazik) along with charge for installation.
Don took too long to get back to me. The day after Jack got me all sorted, Don finally responded.Just curious, is this guy able to do what Jack does?
