Dead battery issues

Bingo. Good call.
Thanks guys for letting me piggy back on your advice, dv52 seems to have hit the nail on the head. I now remove my dongle after every use. Also close the app beforehand to disconnect. My SOC is still only up to 80%, despite a couple of nice easy 90 minute drives. Will it creep higher? The auto stop is saying it cannot operate due to high power consumption?

I believe SOC 80% is where the system maintains it. I don't know how this really relates to battery capacity though so take it with a pinch of salt.

Same thing happened to me... ignition still worked and the dashboard/radio was still working but the car won't start. I was able to jump it to get the car running.

Lesson learned... Don't leave the OBDEleven plugged in lol.

Do you guys think I need to get the battery checked or would it be fine?

I'm having my battery checked under warranty, really only because I want the auto stop fault to be cleared. Has anyone succeeded in doing this themselves with one or do I need VW to sort it?

I'm bringing the car to the dealer as well to have them check the battery... I'm a bit worried because OBD11 is throwing faulty codes saying low power/battery.
I think it just needs to be cleared from the drained battery debacle.

What do you mean by this? Just clear the fault codes or is it something else?
OBDeleven fault codes are all cleared in my car but the infotainment display for car still say auto stop not activated during to high power consumption, can I clear this or do I keep the vw booking?

You have to get the battery charged to resolve that!

david: The "high power consumption" message is normal for SS - especially whilst the engine is coming up to temperature. There's lots of restrictions that disable SS as a normal part of the process (like seatbelts, Air Con etc). Just wait for the engine to settle down and check it again.

I never stated that fitting a bigger battery will 100% cure the OP's problem, he needs to find the cause first!

However it is well known that VW has skimped on the Ah rating (size) of the batteries as my car has a battery of similar Ah (size) to my previous car & yet has way more electrical load & accessories!

Fitting a bigger case size (Ah) will NOT harm the cars electrics as it is still a 12V battery. If you stick to the physical case sizing that VW design the battery tray for then you are ok.

Even if you swap out your "duff" battery for the exact same size/type & have the stop/start feature you need VCDS to tell the control module that a new battery has been fitted. You can also use VCDS to tell the control module that a bigger battery & different type has been fitted also.

I have had a bigger battery & different type fitted (compared to factory) for over 20 months now & NO problems, NO fault codes etc.

Other people has successfully done it, & I have done same to all my cars over the past 22yrs all NO problems so I really do not know why you state that fitting a bigger battery "but also harms electric components.".

Yes, i very well knows that car battery is 12V. And your old battery gives less backup then replace it. Installed higher Ah rating battery but dimension should remain same.

I'm wondering why most posts on this forum refer to the OBDII system as "OBD eleven". It is OBD two (II), the second version of the On-Board Diagnostic system. I have been on several automotive forums, and never seen it as eleven instead of two. Just curious.

OBDeleven is a device you plug into the OBD port to make coding changes. It can read check engine light codes etc.
