SOLD!!!

DBV V2 TBB just back from being rebuilt. Ported and coated housing.

ZERO MILES ON REBUILD

New these are $2600.

Missing oil supply fitting, which can be had directly from Dan or are available on eBay for $65.

***I now have a new oil supply fitting which will be included***

*****PRICE LOWERED TO $1000 SHIPPED in the US****

I had a DBV V1 Journal bearing on my car for a year or so and it was laggy for me so I upgraded it to the v2 TBB hoping for more power and the same or slightly less lag.

Unfortunately since I have been out of the VW scene working on other projects I was not aware the there were a spate of the TBB turbos failing by way of the exhaust wheel coming apart and this is what happened to mine at around 250 miles during a WOT tuning run :(

After this failure (I also had one of the original EQT Vortex turbos that failed within 50 miles :( ) Dan was great and he rebuilt the turbo and 7 short weeks later I had a freshly rebuilt turbo which I am selling since I installed an IS38 turbo on my car and am going to stick with that for the time being.

Unfortunately the market for these turbos is very unfavorable now so I have priced this turbo very low.

I’ve been considering upgrading to this turbo. What was the nature of the failure? Do you mind telling us what happened?
See above. He said the exhaust wheel failed and took out the bearings.

I got that part just wanted to know how it failed.

The turbo didn't write an analysis; it just broke. From the looks of it wither it wasn't balanced and a tip broke off of the exhaust wheel or a tip broke off of the exhaust wheel and that took out the bearings. There was no damage to the housings. Dan replaced the wheel and the bearings and it is as new.

Okay thanks for clarifying. To summarize:

1. The failure reporting/analysis feature of the turbo doesn’t work
2. The exhaust wheel could have experienced a material failure
3. The exhaust wheel could have been unbalanced

That's right and now it has a new wheel and bearings.

I think what neogeo was asking for was did the failure occurred while under full throttle doing a WOT pull or just normal driving or at idle, any other kind of damage to the turbo, and do you have any logs (if you have a Cobb AP) of the incident?

I'm not sure why this matters to buying the turbo, but it happened at WOT and I do have a log but that isn't going to tell you how the turbo broke. I understand the concerns with the DBV2 and anyone who isn't comfortable with it should not buy one.
