Added an Aerofabb V2 front splitter. Subtle detail. Quite pleased

Well. The kid went off to college so once again I have the GTI to drive around in. He drove it for two years and put over 30k miles on it. I bought it just before he got his learners permit so that he learn to drive in the GTI, and drive he did! A couple track days and a season of autocross.

In all the time he had it he didn’t wash it once, so I took it today to get washed, shampooed, waxed and detailed. Took the guy 5hrs to clean it up!

Car has 54k miles on it now. 2019 GTI S. Water pump replacement about 10k miles ago. So far, still running strong. Going to replace the original factory spark plugs next.

Updates from 2024
It’s been a quiet year for the GTi as my son’s been away at college and the VW stays home awaiting his return. I drive it once a week to work to keep the fluids flowing but zero AutoX or Track Days for the car this year.

Earlier this year the GTi took a hit at the oil pan on the expressway.

This prompted the installation of a metal skid plate to help avoid a similar incident.

General service items at 60k miles have been Spark Plugs, replacing worn rear Superpro Endlinks, Oil and Filter change.
DSG and Diff fluid were changed last as well as the water pump a couple years ago.

When my son is down from school he jumps back in the GTi and goes about doing his things. Here I ran into him by coincidence at a stoplight while driving my R56.

I’ve been daily driving this 15 year old R56 JCW for the past several months. It’s had it’s share of mechanical problems but has been running great since getting sorted. Enough so that I rely on it for DD. Putting a Scorpion exhaust on it today.

The ECS skid is definitely nice piece of mind, I've had good luck with not busting pans in the past but still got one just in case. FYI, if you ever decide to do an intercooler, go stock location bc the extra supports for the skid will interfere with the the piping for an fmic- ask me how I know🙃

The Mini looks sweet btw! I've always been somewhat tempted to own one as they look like a riot to drive seeing as they have an even smaller foot print on the road than a Golf

Thx for the heads up RE the Intercooler!

And yes, the mini is indeed fun to drive- though the GTi feels more substantial, balanced and handles better overall compared to my stock JCW. What I like the most about the Mini is the Getrag 6sp. Makes for great heel/toe and revmatch shifts.
