My current offer from CarMax is $28k. Now, I wouldn't expect the dealer to give me that on a trade. I'd be happy\lucky if they gave me $27k (which was my initial offer from CarizzleMaxizzle).
The MK8 is $37,375. If I got $27k trade in it would be (37375 - 27000)*1.07 = $11,101, since I'd pay reduced tax on the MK8 due to the trade. If I sold it to CM, it would be (37375*1.07)-28000 = $11,991, since I'd pay tax on the full price of the MK8. So, it would only cost $890 extra if I sold the car to CarMax instead of trading it in. Additional benefit would be I'd have the overlap where I bought the MK8, and had a week or so to strip the MK7.5 of anything I wanted to keep before bringing it in to CarMax to appraise\sell. With the additional time, could do things like remove my FMIC and power folding mirrors.
