Marketplace has been the most absolute goated way for me to find random shit for my car, but it's equally the fucking worst place to have interactions with people.

Buying snow tires last year, the amount of people that couldn't tell me the radius of the rubber was incredible. People also too stubborn to go take a few more photos of the sidewall. Not to mention, was ghosted a few years ago after a 2 hour drive to pick up some wheels. The highs are high and the lows are low on that website.

I would have scoffed at it before, but now I'm a believer after this interaction.

So these wheels were listed on FB marketplace for $1,100. Posted with the receipt, paid almost $2,100 just 6 months ago. So even $1,100 wasn't really a bad deal.

The post was made by the guy's wife, she was probably mid-50s. Which would explain why she had no idea what curb rash was lol. Anyway, her husband had bought them for his R, but he traded it in for a Civic because he was spending too much money on gas.

Enter our good forum departed friend, UglyB. He starts sending her a bunch of ridiculous messages and lowball offers from all his sock puppet FB accounts. Said most went ignored. But he sent her one nice and realistic message, offering $700. She said her husband wanted $800, and countered with that. He declined saying it was too much.

Knowing their minimum amount was $800 (which was turned down by UB), I went in with a polite message offering $750, saying I was 15 minutes away and could get them whenever.

They accepted my offer.

I was chatting with her while I was there, this poor women goes "I was getting so many ridiculous messages! When your message came in, I just wanted them gone!"

Since I now have a good set of all-seasons, I'll probably end up selling the stock wheels with the tires. That'll return probably ~$1,200 or so back in my pocket.

So, today was a pretty decent day.

The wheels I picked up

Two of them do have some slight curbing that has been touched up. but honestly it's not that bad.

The tires are DWS06+, with a manufacture date of August 2023. So pretty new. They all have around 7.5 - 8 / 32nds.

Installed the side marker deletes my wife got me for my birthday. A little before and after.

And outside, all put together

With the wheels off, found out upon closer inspection they only replaced one of the rotors. Which bothers me more than it should.

With that done, moved on to plugs. They were due. For the first time, I had a coil pack separate and the boot stayed in the cylinder. Even though the engine was warm. Managed to get it out, and just put it back together.

Plugs looked good.

Scoped everything, pistons and cylinder walls look good. Said "Fuck it", and didn't bother with a compression test.

I know I was planning on waiting, but tomorrow I'll probably take apart the hatch and tackle the dash cam, tail lights, and rear wiper delete.

The key is to have someone send a bunch of unhinged messages with insulting low ball offers. That way when your well put together message with a still low ball offer comes in, they're more likely to take it.

Was talking to my nephew to use this tactic for fantasy football trades. Have someone keep sending shit trades & talking down the other player & the the person that actually wants to trade will put in still shitty trade but more reasonable.

But that's collusion & wouldn't do it. Just wanted to try for research purposes
