Correction: The EJ was garbage.

I did unspeakable things to my EJ205. Tuned it myself, had no idea what I was doing and ran stupid amounts of boost. Didn't so much as burn a drop of oil. EJ257 in the 05 was stg 2 most of its life. Never a single issue. EJ257 in the 08 ringlands broke 3 times. Once stock, once with a conservative stg1 custom track tune from a good tuner that was considered the best Subaru tuner in the SE, again stg 2 same tuner. I rebuilt the engine with forged internals. Started to burn oil 6 months later, I traded in and bought a 911.

AFAIK, the 2.0's were more reliable then the 2.5
The legend Mike Kojima does a solid in depth breakdown of the faults of the EJ motor in many videos and how to address them.

The FA motor in comparison is so much better
