I run my 235/40/r18 Conti ECS tires at 34 psi all around for general street driving.

I run my 255/40/r17 Kumho V730 tires at 33f/35r at autocross.

Amazing people are still complaining about understeer when it's so easy and relatively cheap to solve.
I don't really think you actually need to do anything to solve it other than to smooth out your steering. If you yank on the steering at turn in the car will want to push, it'll also push if you don't lightly trail the brakes until the car has set.

If I go into a corner and use the throttle to maintain speed, but smoothly add steering input to force a tighter turn radius my car will spin 100% of the time. It makes decreasing radius on ramps a lot of fun because it emphasizes good throttle control to keep the car pointed where I want it.

What if you're on tyres
Pascals?
l/100km is the oddest form of fuel consumption instead of just making it km/l.
It actually makes a lot of sense and is a way of normalizing consumption. People struggle with the idea that going from 20 to 25mpg is a bigger savings than going from 60 to 70mpg with a plug in hybrid. It also means less math to compare fuel costs.

Yep. A lot of the understeer comes from people trying to wrestle the car into turns or through elements. Late apex and be patient with the throttle. I've seen a guy in a stock GTI with 200tw tires wipe the floor with highly-modded GTIs at autocross. It really is on the driver to learn the car and make the right adjustments.

That being said, sway bars and alignment adjustments can make a big difference too.

Driver mod > all but a good driver in a modded car is fun

I wish I had done driver mod well before I started modding my Jetta, SMF mods to the chassis/suspension and Novice driver made it hard to be even remotely competitive. I find that for SCCA, Street Touring classes allow for enough mods to be fun, without being a complete money pit. Springs & struts, software, 200tw tires, good pads & fluid, sway bars -- not expensive, and while there's a couple 'cheater' cars out there it's a pretty competitive class overall (or everyone around me is just slow)

tbh until I started autocross I suuuuuuuper underestimated the impact good tire can have, now that I'm a little smarter they're the first thing I look at when I look at cars at events/shows/etc.

to me, good tires are everything when it comes to overall car ride.

like on my MK6 i overlooked the tires when trying to address how horrible it was riding. I literally thought the wheel bearings must be bad and had Jay745 replace all of them for me. On the ride home there was no difference, turns out my newish nitto555's were just garbage. The other lesson learned there was buying tires from discount places - sometimes may may get old tires or other bottom of the barrel trash.

And alignment. Huge difference on a good alignment.
