Milwaukee is definitely a solid option. They definitely have a great lineup available for mechanic work, though I think battery platform lights are far overrated. I've got a folding HF one and another folding one from Aldi that just won't quit, HF uses micro USB to charge and the Aldi one has a barrel style charger, and for the cost of both of them I still couldn't get one low end Dewalt light. Definitely don't fall into the trap of more than one battery platform though. I've got Dewalt 20v for all our mechanical and woodworking stuff, and Ryobi 18v for yard work and stuff I'm alright with losing (portable compressor for autocross, for example).

I went in on the Ryo 18V for a bunch of stuff. Impact driver, impact wrench, drill, some emergency lights, folding-hangable work bench light (good for car work), stick vacuum (love it), wet/dry vac. We keep one of those compressors in the Tiguan and I should really get one for my car as well. Tried to muck about with an 18V lawn mower and all-in-one string trimmer/lawn edger/brush trimmer for a season or two. For those I came to realize I should've bought the 40V right up front.

No complaints so far. Do wish they had a skinny battery or two, which would make things like a 90° ratchet/driver or a tight-space impact driver so much more ergonomic ... but that probably won't happen since it could poach sales from Ryobi's more prestigious sister brand.

Yeah, there's definitely been some situations where I wish I had done 40v. The 18v compressor just went down to $30 at HD though, FYI. Good compact compressor if you're primarily airing up, rather than also letting air out. I've been back and forth on their folding light for a while, but I think it'll start to get annoying where I need a different battery in the garage and the lines start to get blurred. I've definitely looked at their 1/2" impact for doing wheels quickly at autocrosses though, because I'm not about to bring my Dewalt -- but the Ryobi is much cheaper and I'd be less heartbroken if it were to walk away.

At work I carry around a mini Mag light. Love it. In the garage I prefer plug in.

Yeah, I've got some plug in lights as well just because you never know. A good variety is the best way to go IMO, I've got a pair of that style of lights on a stand from HF as well as a hanging shop light with a magnet and the two LED lights. I think there's also some headlamps kicking around. You can never have too many lights.

Good shout on the compressor. I preferred the old design with the trigger since there was no potential for an auto-fill to have bad calibration, but this new one is even more compact which is nice.

For the work light - the batteries hold their charge well, you can probably just keep it "plugged in" and then charge/swap as needed. I've only used the impact wrench a couple of times but no complaints so far, just make sure you have one of the high power batteries and not a regular one. Pretty sure they sell it as a kit with an HP battery.

If you're able to pop some small holes in for the mounting brackets, you can string these up anywhere and they'll provide plenty of light.

Let this be my safe space from the outside world. Let my biggest concern be the odd noises my car is making, and how I want to budget the next unnecessary mod purchase.
I'm with you homie, too much shit to worry about. Here I just wanna worry about getting bullied by faster track bois, nicer show car bois, newer tech bois, wiser older bois, and healthier rizz bois

Ryzen 9800X3D reviews just cleared embargo. Thing looks joocy, might be time for me to start planning out a new build to upgrade from my 5700 and 6800XT.
