no shit its slow haha

so i've been looking all over for a decently priced and good SUV for my wife, naturally we are leaning on wanting a tiguan, a q5, sq5, q7 or atlas.

With the cheapest options being around 17k with higher miles and ideally not too questionable conditions, i'm having a hard time pulling the trigger on anything.

then i brought up 'why not a mk7 gti, dsg' to the wife and she might be open. cause i can find those in the 13-15k range all day and she actually is pretty open to it.

still not sure though, sure the hatches have more space than a mk5 but not by much, and boy, every time the 3 of us go anywhere the baby stuff, stroller etc is a pretty fucking tight fit in the hatch.
CX-5 ftw

It was on my list already :)
Now it's at the top.

I agree. You need to expand your horizons. You're looking for a vehicle to haul the wife and baby and baby shit. Don't buy a clapped out decade (or more) old Audi, or another GTI that won't solve your problem. Suck it up, think of the family, and prioritize "safe and reliable" over "cool and fun".

Most people with vehicles have a boring vehicle. Not many are lucky enough to have a boring vehicle AND a fun vehicle. Having something that just works is underrated.

So my buddy who was up last weekend just went through the same thing and he ended up getting a Tiguan. Said he drove the CRV and the CX-5 as well, and preferred the Tig.

Bonus: you already have experience with EA888/MQB so work on the Tiguan will be familiar.

Not an unreasonable point, but I think it depends on the vintage. Also bear in mind the Tiguan's 2.0T isn't the same as the GTI's 2.0T, it's some completely different witchcraft happening in there.

Pre-2018 MY Tiguans are PQ platform and run the same EA888s. 2018 and later switch to the MQB platform and the special cycle EA888 (which I think amounts to a different cam profile).

Maybe someday someone will figure out a DQ250 or DQ381 swap 😩

I love having a vehicle I don’t particularly “care” about. The Pilot is the daily duty/kid hauler. If they make a mess, whatever. Park it in a tight spot, you betcha. Someone wants to cut me off on the highway, come get you some bro (if the kids are not in the car). Don’t wash it, let Mother Nature do that.

Also having the fun vehicle not as the daily allows extra toying and modifying.

Everyone is gonna prefer the Tig. But in the long haul which is gonna hold up from a historical stand point?

Yeah. Stupid b-cycle engine.

Working on it should be nearly the same, but yeah, it is different.
