I'm a n00b and unfamiliar, where is Grattan located? In general, any advice for someone who wants to get on track, as far as orgs which will rent you an appropriate car? Doesn't need to be full-on racecar, just something with decent tire and brake/fluids that can be done arrive & drive style. I looked a little at Skip Barber just because they do Laguna Seca, but I'd love to know any/all options out there.

Being in the northeast we have some options we could drive to, but I don't know that without a trailer I want to risk it, just in case. We've driven at Pocono when they do autocrosses on the infield there and it's super fun and we just drove the cars there and back, but my understanding is that track sessions will be much tougher on cars. Personally my goal is just to have some fun, not really looking to be competitive. I think we'd wind up in the beginner/novice group anyway, with point to pass only and instructors and whatnot, which I'm fine with.
Grattan is in Belding MI.

I don't know any clubs that let you rent a track car unfortunately. You're better off taking your own car since you know it and just drive at your comfort level. Beginners can have plenty of fun without pushing it to levels where you get in trouble. Most beginners make the mistake of trying to go fast instead of just have fun. Shouldn't worry about trying to go fast until you have 10-15 track days under your belt

So we did this, wound up with an automatic (🤮) S650 Mustang ecoboost. They're deceptively quick, but the automatic is annoying as you can't really keep it in a gear without really being particular with the throttle. Still fun enough to take up the coastal highway/rt 1 and Big Sur, but I was wishing for my GTI

We actually got to watch this, it was a super cool time and there was a wild variety of cars. Everything from absurd electric monsters through classic racers, and a bonkers tractor you'd have to see to believe. I'll have to post some photos, I cleared my phone storage out so I have to grab photos from cloud storage.

Definitely agree with this -- I have a pretty fair amount of AX experience under my belt and feel fairly comfortable with my ability to keep it reigned in and still have fun, as well as being aware of what to feel for when the car is trying to communicate something. I'm told it translates fairly well to road courses, though obviously you're dealing with greater speeds and tire walls aren't nearly as friendly as cone walls.

This just keeps pushing Miata to being the reasonable answer for everything, with a support car to haul supplies I think it expands our range a bit. I'll check out some youtube videos of Grattan though.

Non-running race cars are not real expensive to keep
All you motherfuckers are gonna pay. You are the ones who are the ball-lickers. We're gonna fuck your mothers while you watch and cry like little whiny bitches. Once I get my car running and find those VW Forum Wiener fucks who is talkin' shit on the forum... we're gonna make them eat our shit, then shit out our shit, and then eat their shit that's made up of our shit that we made 'em eat. And then all you motherfucks are next. Love - Jay

Not a racecar-racecar, but a friend of a friend did some sort of HPDE event where they put him in a higher end sportscar. Can't remember what he drove, but he drives an E92 M3 with mods and does 24hrs of Lemons, and he was stoked.

For 981 - he lives in Phoenixville so I'll try and dig up more info (his insta post) later.

They have those supercar experience things at the track by me autobahn country club, but they're lead follow where you have to stay behind an instructor and they're basically parade laps for $500. Not worth it

I wondered about those, but yeah I don't want to be doing 55mph on the straights 🙃 I think @mwoodski is on to it with TNiA, this just (unfortunately) continues to make the case against 40 year old 944 track/AX car and newer Miata instead

Yeah I've seen those, but I think this was a genuine driver's ed class, then some laps with an instructor, then some actual hot laps. I don't get cell service in the office so I'm kinda guessing right now.

If anything it was more of a brickyard style not Chicago. Salami and other Boston folks should know what that is.
I'm not from Boston or MA. Thin crust is the only pizza to be found in the county I grew up in unless you count the shit you could buy at Pizza Hut.
