oh #1 then yes the rear tend to be twist & push, I've seen a buddy do it with a pair of needle nose pliers but he also has herculean hands so ymmv. I would advise against just compressing the rears, since it's like 94% a screw in type. Can you rent a set of caliper tools from the auto part store? I have a HF set but I'm not sure if it includes one that fits VWs, last time I did them I just used the Metalnerd tool. Oh and HF sells a ratcheting 3/8" breaker bar that comes in clutch sometimes, just sayin'
I could probably rent from a store.
I'm not as herculean as your friend I guess. So much for the gym lol.

Currently car shopping for my daughter. She has given me her top three list......unfortunately all of these cars come with a CVT since she doesn't want to learn to drive a manual.

1. 10th Gen Civic hatch (1.5T or the 2.0)
2. 10th Gen Accord
Distant third 2017+ Camry

I'd really prefer that she stick with the 2.0 in the Civic since those are supposedly as reliable as a new-ish car gets. But there are barely any with that motor available in the hatch. I've been using AutoTempest, but it really only seems to bring up full search results for Cars.com and Truecar for some reason.

TL : DR
Any other car search engines that you all use when you're in shopping mode?

lol nah he has vise grip hands, it's absurd. But that's the result of working on cars as a hobby since probably about as long as you've been alive, and he's a multicraft/maintenance guy for a rock farm

Civic and Accords are great.
I'd use FB marketplace.
I'd even browse CPO inventory at my local dealers.

Bruh get her to learn manual.

I had never heard of AutoTempest before, so I looked it up. Cool concept! Then I went to the site and tried searching for 22-24 GTIs. Poor execution! (edit: some of this was operator error by selecting "GTI" instead of "Golf GTI")

I guess it saves some time from having to load up all the different search sites and put in your queries, but what's the point of an aggregator if it's not going to list the aggregated results? Now I've got a tab for Tempest, four separate tabs for Craigslist, a tab for AutoTrader, a tab for CarGurus... 😒

I agree with you but don't talk badly about Autotempest... they sponsor all of my favorite automotive channels

While I'm buying tools... should I buy a vibrating dildo for my girl? I bet it'll work better than what I've got... so much for my dignity anyway...

Not really talking badly about it - it's definitely a good tool after I used the right model name in the query (query filter design could use some work I guess)

I'm sure it's some combination of legal battles, pay-to-access, and desire to drive/control web traffic that's led to the additional hoops for users to jump through.

Yeah, it's certainly not perfect......but it usually gives me a decent list to start from. I was just hoping someone else had a suggestion for that "secret handshake" search engine that pulls everything from CPO's all the way down to shady facebook listings.

I have three dealers working on numbers for me so far......but I cast a wide net while car searching. I don't usually have such a short timeline like my daughter does right now though. She needs a replacement car by this weekend, so I'll probably be sending a deposit today or tmrw for a weekend pickup.
