I question the wisdom of waiving it for a DD214. 75% of the military act in support of the 25% that kick in doors.
Even that, I saw plenty of door kickers that were morons and handled weapons like idiots.
We had 4 Army infantry that decided to play catch with a live grenade. It didn't end well. Amazingly, all 4 lived, modern body armor is bad ass, but the guy that got the worst of it is probably wishing he hadn't. No hands, or arms below the elbow, one leg lost above the knee, one below. His dick and balls cut up like Swiss cheese, mostly missing. Right upper portion of his face gone , along with his right eye, left eye damage beyond repair from shrapnel. I made our trauma surgeon promise not to save me if I got injured that badly. He asked the same.
We had some moron negligently discharge their weapon on the daily while trying to clear their weapon.
There's very little separating the average person with a DD214 from the civilian population, other than higher rates of PTSD, alcoholism, mental illness and a dark sense of humor.
