Getting annoyed. I'm going back to Discount Tire later this week for the FOURTH time to get my wheels rebalanced for a highway vibration. My gut says a tire or wheel is out of round but all they're doing is targeting the Road Force measurement to make it "good enough." I'm going to ask them to let me come out and watch them spin the wheel so I can visually look for any wobbling. If that doesn't resolve anything, I guess I'll need to have the dealership check the car.

FWIW, this is not the first or even the second time I've had to repeatedly push Discount to get the balance right on a car. I think their standards for road force balance are too lax (under 20lbs) and they need to get the force measurements much lower on sports cars

How many locations do you have close to you? I have 3 within about 20 minutes, so I have tried them all and go to the one or two that have been issue free for me. The big question is, does the unbalance-ness cause a hum?

Yeah I should try another location. I’ve had an issue before where a machine was out of calibration. Car is very quiet.

I'm lucky that my closest one also seems to be the best one near me. They know me as the "stuck wheel spacer guy" haha. I have a spacer that is slightly out of round and gets stuck in the wheel. They remove the wheel, have me come back, and I use the lug cap cover tool to pry it out haha.

Are there any performance shops around to get the balance done at, vs. a chain where "good enough" is usually good enough?

Find a tech at a high end dealer like Porsche who will do it on the side or an indy who cares. I use an offroad shop or a guy with access to good tools @ a shop to do it on the side.

"Discount Tire balanced my wheels using a 2x4, is that the proper procedure for a track car?"

y'all drilling the 2x4 to bolt it to the strut are silly, just use half a harbor freight ratchet strap. It'll be fiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiine

Put car on jack stands, put in 1st gear/drive and Let the car idle. Walk around watching the wheels to see if any are noticeably out of round or bent. If nothing is obvious use a stationary object and a stick/rod clamped to it and place close to the wheel to see if there’s any slight bobble.

Then find an independent shop that knows what they are doing.
