Complete loss of power and ACC/Front assist error

This has happened twice now, first time I was going 70mph on a dual carriageway (with no hard shoulder) so was pretty sketchy as I just heard a thud and then flashing glow plug light and a load of ACC/front assist errors, I managed to coast with no power and hazards on to 30mph where I managed to restart the car and carry on as normal like nothing happened.

I scanned with OBDeleven and even had it in the garage a few days later for an engine management light and MOT, the light turned out to be a faulty cable they fixed. Now around a month later the same thing has happened again, I was approaching a roundabout and had a complete loss of power again and the same lights popped up again, stopped restarted and drove fine again, no thud this time, just went to accelerate on to the roundabout and had no power.

Will scan again later but also had my engine management light pop up again not long ago, which I'm waiting to get looked at. I thought it might be the same faulty cable throwing it up but now wondering if it's something else, I scanned the car when it appeared again but all I got was these three blank codes under 01 engine :

Anyone experienced anything similar? Could it maybe be faulty glow plugs and causing a misfire? Car is really getting on my nerves lately.

Try another diagnostics...VCDS/ODIS/VCP. If the issue still persists and the light still does appear on the dashboard (even if it went off), there should be fault codes in the respective units.

Most likely a Battery, positive or negative cable (ground) issue.

Could also be a ignition switch, but given its so intermittent and doesn’t show other signs of that issue I’d lean towards the former possibilities.

Thanks for the responses, unfortunately I don't have a VCDS or anything available to me other than my OBDeleven just for personal use. I have had it back from the garage and think the light is from a faulty cable connection, the engine light is currently off so hopefully that doesn't return. I hate seeing those on my dash. They also said the error codes showed up as Glow Plug 2 and an unspecified Injector fault. They have cleared them so hopefully I don't experience anymore loss of power as that is pretty scary especially when going 70mph on an A-road with no where to pull up. Might try some fuel injector cleaner when I fill up for the next few weeks and hope it's just something as minor as a clogged injector causing a misfire or something. If it continues then may need further investigation.

Hi I thought I fixed the issue by changing glow plug 2 which a garage said could be the problem, that seemed to fixe it for about a month and now it has lost power 6 times in the last 2 days, so It's going back to the garage, have you had any luck? These are the error codes I got when I scanned the car.

I thought it could be some wiring/electrical issue seen as it's throwing up circuit error for a few components.

Anyone else have an idea what is going on? My car is pretty much underivable I can't risk suddenly losing power on the roads.

So for me turns out it was the Intake pipe which goes from my throttle body to my turbo so it meant there wasn’t enough air going into my turbo to produce any power and the car was in safe mode to prevent the turbo from blowing up luckily my fix was just to replace the cracked intake pipe it ran me £110 for the part from dealership and £80 labour Goodluck on yours I’d say start contacting as many breakers as you can for potential parts so you don’t have to wait or use a dealership for parts as they charge crazy prices

Definitely investigate the injector loom, the fact its given multiple issues on pot 2 which you have already changed the Inj on, so as long as that inj was new or tested it would suggest the wiring is chaffed or a connection plug has some corrosion, the cam senor is a easy fix but id wait and see if it appears again,
In VCDS it will see the error code stored even if the light has gone out on the dash.

Heard back from the garage and they seem to think it could be a new fuel injector but could also be a couple of other issues too, not sure if I want to pay £400 to get a new injector fitted if I'm not certain it will fix the issue though.

I’d say take it to a proper specialist pay the £40-70 for a proper diagnostic because they can scan properly the codes and identify the problem and tell you rather than a normal mechanic who thinks they know the problem and cost you extra money for no reason

Update: Ended up paying £300 to have a new fuel injector fitted (waste of money as wasn't the problem nor did it fix it) Guess ekramz was right but I'd used this garage for 8 years so I trusted them as never really had any problems until recently. Now I have had VW specialist in the area look at it and they said it is because of damaged wiring harness for the fuel injectors (other garage noticed no issues). I'm no mechanic but even I sussed it must be an electrical issue from the codes, so now I've had a fuel injector done for no reason, guess I'll be switching garages now, they also said a wiring repair on a previous job by them was done poorly. So hopefully this will be repaired and back to normal and this thread might help someone else in the future.
