Clutch time, DKM or South bend?

By going with a clutch solution that relies on a single mass flywheel, you’re likely going to experience gear lash/chatter/or whatever the kids these days call the transmission noise. Because of that, some of us have switched over to a thicker transmission fluid.

You can try the stock fluid. It's basically a straight 70w fluid so it’s very thin, but you already have it in there. ( I don’t get too hung up on rated fluid weights. Like motor oil, it represents a range of viscosity, so one company’s 75w might actually be thicker than another’s 80w.)

If you find the noise at idle a bit too much, you can always change to something thicker, like the Motul or Ford fluid mentioned in various posts. Regular MTL is slightly thicker than stock and likely won’t do much to quiet down the trans. MT-90 is thicker, but will make cold shifting a problem if you live in an area that sees temps below freezing. I’ve also experienced shift lock out with this fluid on another platform. It might be too thick for a street mk7.

Pennzoil synchromesh is readily available and cheap. It's thicker than MTL, but not as thick as Motul (Ford is slightly thicker). Also note that it's not synthetic (but neither is the stock fill) if that’s important to you.
