Don’t have a ton of details but a friend of mine has a MK7 Alltrack, dealer says $5k for new timing chain.

Is this even remotely close to a fair price? I have my doubts. Where could she go in Chicago for second opinions?

Lol 5 k?? What are they replacing the entire engine. My mechanic is about 70 miles from Chicago, but I can ask him.

I imagine it's around 1200 parts& labor

There’s a VW meet next Sunday (10/20) on a local FB group - ILLDUB. The organizer set up a cruise to the meet from Joliet to the spot. I can’t make it, family obligations.

And she’s on a loaner fuel pump so can’t even go full beans when the water pump is fixed

Do you wrench? Got your own tools? I feel a water is a prerequisite of a GTI owner. I have yet to replace one yet though

Yep I do, have most of the tools necessary, but like you, haven’t done before.

I’ve taken the intake manifold off before on an mqb Tiguan which was strait for. One long bolt on the underside that takes some patience.

Only thing that’s giving me pause is that I’ve got MPI - shouldn’t make THAT big of a difference but I’m convincing myself that it will
