Can't Change Settings While in Motion

I was using a loaner from the dealer (2017 Jetta) and I noticed that you couldn't go into the settings menu while the car was in motion. Is this something new? Nothing is locked down on my 2015 Golf R.

How about those with newer models?

Yea they were all blocked on my '17 and it was massively annoying when I wanted to make changes on the fly. I tend to switch back and forth between DCC modes in Custom. I ended up just unblocking them all with VCDS.

Yeah, I am not sure I understand their logic. I mean, going through radio/XM stations and programming destinations is just as much a hazard as changing settings.....(shrug)

Could you please share, how you were able to do on the VCDS ?

I was checking the Long Codign and Adaptation channels on the 5F infotainement module, but wasnt sure which parameter exactly.

Played around with the 5F Infotainement Controller Adaptations and was able to get it work.

Below is the steps to enable blocked settings menu items for Car (General Settings), Media, Phone and Radio

1. From VCDS, select Controller Module 5F-Information Electr.,

2. Enter Security Login code = 20103

3. Under Adaptions, Query for the channels listed below and set the value = NON_BLOCKED (Blocked means, settings not available in motion), for each of them.

Same here, did this a couple weeks ago with VCDS and it worked flawlessly. Assuming it will work the same with OBD11 (if your build date is pre-2017). It slipped my mind until now to come give my thanks to o_a_ravi for posting instructions. So, thank you, o_a_ravi!!!
