First drive on Map 6 with auto logging at 70%. Any recommended adjustments are appreciated.

https://datazap.me/u/mattcarr/map-6?log=0&data=1-4

The average settings from @TwinDad felt good. I need to do a side by side comparison with Map 2. Does anyone know the RPM boost numbers of Map 2?

Should I change any other Map 6 settings besides RPM boost? Thanks guys.

Raise your FOL to 60 and try again. Looks okay. Maybe a touch less boost, or a bit more fuel after 5000 RPM would be nice. Start with fuel.

Alright, I changed the Fuel Open Loop to 60 and boost values to the most common which lowered boost over 5000 RPM a touch:

1500 11
2000 12
2500 13
3000 13
3500 14
4000 16
4500 16
5000 15
5500 14
6000 13
6500 12
7000 12

I also installed a K&N drop-in filter and Remus Responder pedal tuner. The pedal tuner is fun. I was making a loop on the highway and did two pulls on each pedal setting in this order:

2 x Sport
2 x Race
2 x Race +3
2 x Sport +3
2 x Eco +3
2 x Stock

Stock felt bogged down in comparison. For daily driving I will use Sport or Eco.

One of the on-ramps had a curve and incline where acceleration wasn’t consistent. I think it shows in the graph. Is that called clutch slip? Haha, I’m so clueless but having fun with it. Thanks for all your advice.

Eco should be worse than stock. Try sport on lowest(er) settings to just remove the lag.

You're getting good advance but still getting some corrections. I wouldn't worry about it now, but it may get worse when its warmer out.

Is there a log with just a pull from 2300 rpm to 6300 or so?

Maybe try this:

1500 11
2000 12
2500 13
3000 13
3500 13.5
4000 14.5
4500 14.5
5000 14
5500 14
6000 13
6500 12
7000 12

That or your old values and just drop the 4k and 4.5 k to 15psi.

Okay, here is the log. Thanks for your recommendations.

https://datazap.me/u/mattcarr/4k-45k-15?log=0&data=1-4

1500 11.4
2000 12.3
2500 13.2
3000 13.8
3500 14.8
4000 15.0
4500 15.0
5000 15.6
5500 14.3
6000 13.5
6500 12.6
7000 12.2

I put in additional weather seal and it really quieted the cabin. Door closure has more of a luxurious thunk too. 25 meters was more than enough for all five doors and the hood.

That's sort of where George would put you. Trims and overall advance look good. You have some pull but never reach 2*, If your gas is consistent, you could leave it there but many here would tell you to drop another .5 psi to eliminate timing adjustments in the ranges where they still show up. It can be prudent for changes in gas quality or operating environment.

Sorry to trouble you further. Should I drop .5 psi across the board or at which specific RPM values? I have no idea how to read the logs. Thanks for your time.

So I also have a question for the real experts.

I've been doing absolute maps but it occurs to me that additive may be the way to go if you don't want to tweak for seasons etc. Maybe it's different for modded cars and blends that have some overboost concerns but for a stock 1.8 like mine, I would think the engine management for temp/air density would take care of things if we simply use an optimized additive map. One concern might be winter vs summer gas but with some margin, I'd think it easier to set it and forget it with an additive map and let the engine compensate for variables as designed. I'm thinking about doing an additive map with more volatile winter gas (93 octane)on a warm day which should be worst case, check it on 93 summer gas in May and leave it if still good.

It's difficult to get specific with those logs. You need to put it in manual mode, use the gas pedal at full on against the kickdown switch without activating it and make a 3rd gear run from about 2k to 6k. One nice large capture that looks like this.

I followed your instructions and used the settings @ZuMBLe suggested. Is there a simple way to decipher the graph? What I googled hurt my small brain.

Try switching the JB4 to "additive" mode instead of absolute mode. Enter these settings in to the specified RPM fields.

1500 - 3
2000 - 3
2500 - 3
3000 - 3.5
3500 - 3
4000 - 3
4500 - 4
5000 - 5
5500 - 5
6000 - 4
6500 - 4
7000 - 4

Get learned:

IGN1 is Timing advance (good)
IGN2-4 is knock (bad)
DME_BT is the ecu's factory programmed boost target value
Target is your JB4 programmed additive value. It's either an absolute value (car tries to reach the value), or additive value, JB4 takes the value then adds it on top of the DME_BT value for a final boost number.
Boost: Logged boost value.

Boost: Logged boost value.

Note, if you enter a value less than 10 in the 1500 field it will make the JB4 switch to additive mode. A really bad mistake would be to enter a value like 9 in to the 1500 cell and then think you're going to enter absolute values like 15, 16, 20.. etc. That will tell the ecu that you want to take the ECU's stock boost value, then add 15,16,20, etc on top of it. There is a safety that caps the difference between the ECU boost and the requested boost be 9 or less.

What he said. and once you eliminate knock, you can try raising it to see if it can take more.

I'm going to do a winter gas additive map on Monday when it's supposed to get up to 65 here. Should be worst case and work as a year round map unless I get a little greedy in the summer, LOL.
