Bulb Types / Specs

I am looking at replacing my bulbs around the outside of the car(long story)how can I find out what type of bulb fits where without actually taking things apart. I looked in the handbook but cannot find specs, only how to remove them.

I looked into buying spares - it's compulsory to have them in the vehicle in France for example. Agree the handbook is lazy. At the moment I carry the spares I had for my last car (a Peugeot 107 believe it or not).

Osram to the rescue

I found this from Osram to be helpful in replacing the dim Toshiba bulbs at the rear of my Golf.

My car has standard (in New Zealand) halogen headlights with the main/DRL/park light toward the centre of the car, dip on the outside and indicator a little lower between them (see photo). The main/DRL/park bulb is H15, the dip H7 and fog H11.

It is the indicator that is a right pain to get.
I was forced to buy it from my VW dealer for £21.

You can get third party led indicators but they cost even more.
The bulb is a PWY24W which is NOT the same as a PY24W which I have sitting next to me which is a larger version of the bulb and won't fit.
