So I've been trying to map out a few things, if finances allow, so that the GTI gets a pretty complete visual overhaul in time for spring next year.

The clutch needs to be done, that's on the docket for this month.

If I were to prioritize the rest I think it would go:

1) Hood
2) Vinyl wrap
3) Wheels

I want new/stronger wheels that are a little easier to clean but are still performance minded. Right now I think those are the WedsSports TC105X. They are 16lbs and come in different finishes (and have fewer spokes) than my current wheels, of which I have bent 5 so far. The wheels on the car work perfectly fine right now, and I'll use the stocks over the winter anyway, so this is not a huge priority, but necessary at some point I think.

But getting a new hood before doing a wrap makes perfect sense. Leaning towards the Seibon DV style. There are other hoods that I find a little more visually appealing but Seibons hoods are known to fit better than a lot of the other options. If anyone has any input on the topic I am all ears.

Then there is the vinyl wrap. I don't want anything obnoxious but definitely looking for something a little more radical than what you typically find on a VW. Will PPF the front as well. Haven't thought enough on that yet but obviously wrap color will somewhat dictate wheel color.

Not going to do any of it myself, so hoping a hood/wrap/wheels and tires isn't going to run $7k+. Gotta start vetting shops and looking at our options.

Curious as to what you find with regards to wrap pricing. Years ago when my dad had a MK7 GTI he looked into getting it wrapped and was quoted like $5k

Wraps aren't cheap, and aren't a great long-term solution (at least not for the paint underneath). IIRC something with the adhesive really doesn't play great with the paint/clear. Definitely a way to do cool colors though.

I'm hoping that's the top end, but I guess it depends on what brand of wrap, color/finish, how much prep work they have to do, etc etc. There are a lot of shops around here that do vinyl so I'll price shop the shit out of it and see what happens.

Heard that. The front of my car is a disaster (again), I'm on my second bumper and it looks worse than the first. The hood is also chipped to hell. I don't drive a ton but when I do it's through construction zones, behind a couple dozen trucks, on garbage roads, you name it. It just sucks around here, full-time. So no option is a great option. If I have to re-do the wrap in 5-7 years it's not too terribly different from replacing the hood and bumper every few years.

I'd love to have you pilot a rhino-lined GTI....been considering it for years as mine is a DD like what you described.

Yeah, I have several chips in the hood and a big gash in my bumper as well, I swear it's like the car is cursed. I debate about buying another bumper, getting it painted, and getting PPF for the whole front end, but it seems like so much money :/ Paint is the most expensive part unfortunately

I can't stress the value of PPF enough. I'm pretty sure mine has had it since new (bumper, headlights, partial hood/fenders) and it still looks pretty fresh even after being totaled lol, not to mention multiple track days of rubber and rocks being flung at it.

My A4 doesn't have it (except on the headlights) and the hood has so many touched up paint chips it looks like it needs a prescription for Acutane. even still I'm tempted to DIY a PPF install just to preserve the bumper & fenders that refreshed and still in nice shape.

So I've had this feeling for a while, but I think the DMF is on it's way out. I thought it might've been mounts, or bad bushings, or something but I don't think so anymore.

The clutch has not felt right for a while. There just felt like there was this stutter, especially into first, and a harsher-than-I-was-trying-to-be engagement no matter what I did but I watched a few vidoes and I wasn't getting the noises people were talking about. Now I think I hear it when I shut the car off.

Not sure if it has a few hundred miles left in it or not, I'll baby it and find out. The service to get everything replaced is not until next Wednesday. I imagine something pretty bad would happen if I was driving it when it finally let go.

Oil change. LiquiMoly 5w40 this time. I feel like we use something different every time but I'm sure the shop that did the last change when they did the oil pan used 0w20 so it's nice to have something a little thicker in there.

Car is under the knife. I forgot the key for my wheel locks (something that should live in the car but lives in the garage) and it took me almost 2hrs to get it to them so they did not finish today. Should be back tomorrow.

Break-in is the same for this clutch as it was for the Stage 4 self-adjusting. 500 miles of city driving followed by a few weeks of city driving + intermittent 2nd and 3rd gear pulls from 3k+ rpm.

New clutch is in and boy, this pedal is stiff. Trans got new gear oil too. Feels much better than the outgoing self-adjusting stage 4. Could be due to going from DMF to SMF, I dunno. Very little chatter, which is a nice surprise

Here are photos of the old disc / flywheel / pressure plate. It's my first metallic clutch disc but these hot spots seem unusual to me. Plenty of material left on the disc though. The "something is on fire" smell I was getting after driving is gone which leads me to believe I was right that it was the clutch and something was up.
