Hey guys, can't get the idea out of my head of having an upholsterer do the front/rear seat centers and maybe door panels in this stuff.

Anyone seen it done or think it's doable? Cost isn't a big concern, just don't know if a good aftermarket job would hold up to daily use.

I don't know about the door cards, but the GTE has blue plaid, if you want an idea how the seats will look. Might be a bit more blue than the fabric you linked...

I have a roll of both the Relicate aftermarket GTE cloth and factory GTE cloth and can tell you the quality of the Relicate cloth appears at least as good if not slightly better. Neither have been installed yet so I can't confirm durability, but I'd be surprised if there's any difference between the two. I plan to use the Relicate cloth.

Should be noted that GTE plaid seats, like GTI (red) or GTD (grey) plaid seats, are manual only. They don't even have the power recline of Golf S seats. So you're going to lose your power seat functionality if you're putting these into a Golf R. It wouldn't stop me from doing it, but something to consider.

AND you would be able to install the small underseat drawer! 😂

That's why for me its preferable to reupholster your seats of choice and have it all: plaid with your desired comfort/performance features. For me, its SEL seats with GTE blue stripe center panels (to coordinate with the Silk Blue exterior) and beige cloth bolsters, sides and backs to match the beige interior.

what's shipping cost like to CA?
Have to ask them for a quote. I got my seats form airbag-shop.nl several years ago. Came crated on a pallet, FedEx International Priority and was about $500. Shipped on a Monday and showed up at my job on Thursday. I'm sure costs have gone up, and you could keep it down some by going freight (boat) but then you don't have the tracking visibility... not to mention impatience . They may not even be willing to ship freight. If I was in their position I wouldn't.

My buddy Xero had the centers of his DBP Mk4 R32 seats redone with GTE plaid. To say I'm jealous would be an understatement. He has black leather with blue stitching door card inserts he is going to install over winter to finish it off. The first picture is probably the best representation, the others were edited.
