Blown fuse question , great site for information on fuses

I found this great site for information on fuses while sorting out a blown fuse in my GTI. It shows fusebox diagrams for 1200 vehicles.

My problem:

I plugged a 175W inverter into the 12V power socket, plugged a 65W laptop charger and 10W Apple charging block (75W total) into the inverter’s 110V outlets and promptly blew the fuse.

I don’t understand what happened as the fuse is 20A and the circuit should be able to handle 240W.

Has anyone else had this type of trouble? Wondering if it was a defective fuse or if my inverter is bad in some way.

Sounds like your inverter may be faulty with a load on it. Your math is correct so there’s no reason this shouldn’t have worked. If your replace the fuse does it pop again?

I will try that and see what happens. I’m hoping it was a defective fuse. Otherwise, I’ll need to replace the inverter. Thank you!
