Blank screen on 2016 mk7r

So while I love the drive on the R, seems like the infotainment system is quite flaky. I've had 2 issues so far, anyone else having the same problem?

1) this afternoon I switched on the car and noticed the screen was blank. It was just black like the car was switched off but the radio, phone, DCC etc were all working, I tried restarting the car but No difference. Finally went home came back to the car 30 min later and it was ok again.

2) reverse cam not working, this issue is a lot more frequent. Happened at least 4 times in 2 months, when I put the car In reverse the cam does not work instead I get some message saying Park assist not working. Fixes itself without having to do anything.

I had a similar issue when my car was new, it took them a good two months to figure out that the control unit software loaded on my car was of a lower spec model (or some BS along those lines).

They even replaced my camera before a VW rep from the ME office came and figured out thats its the software.

My Symptoms:
- Reverse camera was a blank screen
- Ipod/media in would not recognize and it would be greyed out.
- Bluetooth wouldn't work saying "Telephone not available"

Hopefully its just a software glitch like mine and they can fix it ASAP, especially seeing how it sometimes works and sometimes doesn't.. hints to a software glitch.

You could take the car to Nabooda in rashidiya and ask for Ganesh (team leader). No point speaking to a service rep, just go straight to him.

Goodluck

I'm starting to get the same problem. Went to VW service in sharjah and they said I should come back with an appointment. Melvin could you tell me how it goes with Ganesh?

So just to update my case with the blank screen.

It kind of fixed itself apparently. The last time I got blank screen errors were on the same day I reported them on the forums. Every day after it up to now I have not been getting the blank screen error not even once. This is odd.

Same here, have not had the blank screen issue again. I am not very sure if this could be a reason but i took the car in for a wash that same day, I specifically told the guy not to touch the screen but i caught him doing it anyway.

The reverse cam not working has been more frequnt but not seen it in last few weeks. Completely random occurances, if anyone has discussed this with the dealer please update this thread.

Same issues with my MIB2 I've also had the radio volume disappear but this sorts itself out when you turn it on and off. I've only had the blank screen once

I have an update.

So my screen suddenly stopped working again but the radio is still playing. So what I did was I took the car straight to the service centre and left the car one (so the tv doesn't suddenly work again if I turn off and on the car) and told them to check the screen now (yes I popped in un announced). They took the car in and downloaded the car data and sent that to the factory in Germany. Honestly I feel like I made progress with this issue. The service advisor also said that this is likely a software issue and not a hardware issue so hopefully no main head unit replacement is needed. I was told to call him in a week time to see if the factory replied and on what's next. I'll definitely update this thread with more information.

You can thank me later :p

Update:
So I called up the service advisor for an update from him and he told me that the factory in germany sent them a software update for my car that will hopefully fix the issue. So I'm going to book the car in (he said it'll take the same day to finish) and hopefully this puts an end to the unexplainable software glitch in the car.

Received my car from the service centre and they have informed me that they updated the software on my infotainment. They told me there was a problem in the main control unit. Everything seems fine so far. Only time will due tell.

Before sending the car into service, I was able to replicate the problem 9 out of 10 times. What I would do is turn the car off then on about 3-4 minutes later, the screen would then not be working.
After the service I've tried that method about 3 times throughout the day and the screen works everytime. This is a relief looks like the software update fixed things up.

Will update if anything goes wrong (inshallah it doesnt)
