$999 vs $1,749.... that’s the price I’m seeing on their website when you don’t give them your core right?
yea the tp20 or whatever isn't cheap. nice but not cheap. lifetime warranty on a turbo is nice. so 800 more bucks for 40 more hp, just the pros and cons. Hate having to send in the is20 tho to never be seen again lol or do they upgrade your is20 and give it back, idn

Have you considered the TPC20? I had an IS38 and the TPC20 puts out more power.

No, I think the power of a safe tune on an IS38 is about perfect for a fwd car and I'm liking the powerband shift to higher in the rev range. Cash beat a turbo with lifetime replacement either.

So how bad of an idea is this turbo with stock GTI IC? I have $1000 to spend right now, probably won't spend much more until later in the year. I can also throw a COBB OTS IS38 tune on it until I get everything ends done, then get a custom tune. Can't do that with a hybrid.

Right and worth every penny IMO. 50+ more HP and a better built turbo. As soon as my IS38 has been rebuilt I'll be selling it for $700.

Stock IC is a bad idea on a stock car. The TPC20 shifts the powerband higher also with at least 50 HP more. If you can run an IS38 on an OTS tune you can run a TPC20 with an OTS tune as well. Neither will run properly. Lifetime warranty is nice though.

Also the Cobb IS38 tune requires HPFP.

probably best to save your money until you can do it the right way.

I didn't know that. Hmmmmm. Yeah, I'll do the IC first, clutch, then the IS38 and a tune. The stock clutch is holding up fine so far to stg1, but I purposely don't beat on it, but it'll have to be done bef the IS38 I'm sure.

okay so with that theory, (person thinking of a xxx turbo and you ask if they have looked into a turbo that’s 75% more in cost, lol) Why not get a vortex lx and gain even more? It will be worth every penny no? And while we are at it, why not spend a little more and get say an IMS650 or an EFR 7136?

I understand what you're saying but don't the turbos you mentioned have more fueling requirements and lose more torque at lower RPMs?
