Best option to resolve current limitations

Hi guys, I've got a 2013 MK7 Golf and recently retrofitted a low line reverse camera. The installation went fine, the camera opens when I put the car in reverse but no video display even after coding (VCDS). Did a full scan on the car and researched the model number (5G0035846A) and turns out this infotainment unit doesn't support the reversing camera. Probably should have checked this first but here we are.

I've done a bit of research online and seems like the consensus is to do an MIB1 > MIB2 upgrade, but this comes with more costs, alternatively a second hand MIB1 infotainment unit that supports RVC is a lot cheaper partly because I don't need the screen and partly because these are sold cheap after aforementioned upgrade so I'd just switching the infotainment unit itself and enabling the camera via VCDS if it wasn't already enabled.

I've seen a lot of videos and blogs about disabling component protection on MIB2 but no such articles for MIB1 so my concern with the MIB1 option is whether I can disable component protection on the replacement infotainment unit and how I approach that (i.e. does the Congo and Duke script work on MIB1, probably not)?

Just to outline the price points of second hand units on eBay in FB Marketplace in Melbourne, Australia:

1. Second hand MIB1 infotainment unit only = $100
2. Second hand MIB2 infotainment + 6.5" screen (needs component protection removed + further coding) = $500
3. Second hand MIB2 infotainment + 8" screen with component protection removed and reverse camera enabled = $1000

You can see why option [1] is preferred at this point given I am just trying to get the reverse camera enabled but currently blocked with details on how to disabled component protection on MIB1 if that's even possible.

If you were in my situation what would you do, and why?

Thanks!

Option 1 leaves you with the same small, low resolution 5" screen.
As you already know your way around VCDS, go for MIB2! You get a proper USB port, Android Auto etc. as well.
8" is significantly more area than 6.5" so I'd lean that way. But option 2 is a good compromise.

Thanks for the reply, I managed to get a cheap MIB2 infotainment unit, upgrade the firmware, activate CarPlay using the Congo/Duke activator and also get a cheap 8” screen separately so that got me the outcome I wanted much lower than the budget I expected, quite a bit of shopping around and haggling but worth it in the end!
