got a ST40 kit for the front on the way but don't feel great about tracking my non-PP GTI with stock rear pads given the non vented tiny rotors.

I'll be swapping to full pagid track pad in the front but I'm too lazy to swap the rear also so....

anyone have experience with or suggestions on a good street and light track duty rear pad for non-PP GTI?

EBC Yellow works fine. No issues.

thanks. and sounds like you take your car to the track with some hard braking and no issues?

also curious if you turned XDS off completely or played with any of the electronic nannies?

also did you leave the rear dust shields on or take those off?

also what pads are you running on the front with your Brembo kit? right now I'm thinking pagid RSL29 endurance pad for track and some stoptech posiquiet pads for street use since i've heard their sport pads that come with the bbk kit can create deposit issues on the street

strangely, I spoke to stoptech and they actually did not recommend the sport pads on the street as if they are not driven hard and hot they can create pad deposits on the rotors and create that "warped rotor" feeling. I google'd around and indeed found reports of this.

since the rears don't get that hot and are not used much I'm likely to just get EBC yellows since they are cheap and "grabby" with high initial bite that I like but I'm not extremely price conscious so if a better option I'm all ears

what level of hpde are you at?

brake pads should = tires

the more grip you have in a tire the more you need in pads.

you can really run the stock rears until you get to intermediate.

and i am going to make a sweeping comment. do not use ebc yellow stuff on track. the stock pads are better.

The stock pads are metallic, so they will groove your rotors. Since our rotors cannot be turned (would thin out beyond spec), you'll have to replace them every pad change.

I always change to ceramic pads on the rears, which would make your rotors last through pads changes.

You don't have to go race pads for the rear since they don't work hard at all on the track.

thanks guys, I'll just be on michelin ss tires but I've raced everything from full open wheel formula mazda to vintage stuff to basically anything with wheels for past 2 decades so I have some experience with track work. I'm not trying to set records with the GTI, just have some fun now and again.

appreciate the recommendations.

you will have a great time. here are some tips for running the mich pss tires.

do not let them get over 40lbs hot in front. keep an eye on outer edge, rotate before you think you need to. or bad things can happen.

this was total inattention on my part. realize they are a 300tw tire.

now to get you up for the track. car porn.

17 gti sport, porterfield s4 front pads, st rear sway, 200tw tires.

I turn off XDS (that's the braking effect to reduce wheel spin?) because it interferes with the Wavetrac. The other nannies seem to be track dependent. At Summit Point Main, I can leave them on without any ill effect. On Shendandoah or NJMP, they really interfere so I turn them off there. Not sure why it seems to be track dependent.

I have left the rear dust shields on. And although someone made a generalization that EBC Yellow are bad, they are fine for the rear. I wouldn't use EBC on the fronts. Been there, done that. No bueno. Stock pads on the rear are also ok.

I use Hawk DTC-60 on front. I get two track days out of them. I guess I use the brakes too much! I tried Pagid, but at nearly twice the price, they didn't last twice as long. I have slotted disks on front, which probably doesn't help. I can't find plain disks for the Brembos. I also have removed the dust shields and have installed the RS ducts. I haven't had any brake issues with this set up.
