Long-time Volkswagen enthusiast now building my ’18 Golf R which I picked up in July 2018. The goal is to build a street-driven HPDE Track oriented car finding that perfect balance of performance optimizing the platform's potential. Been posting in misc threads and have been wanting to document, so here we go.

Previous build was an ’08 R32 which was a lot of fun on and off track, many learnings have paved the path for my new build.

11/2018 - Trip to Laguna Seca with friends, first track day with MQB platform coming from my MKV R32, arrived with a tik over 1,000 miles, just enough to start driving hard. APR intake/catch can, Girodisc front rotors, EBC yellows, my Gloc pads I ordered didn’t fit 🤦. Also purchased some RE-71r 235/40/18 for my MKV track wheels and ditched the Pirelli slicks that were on them.

9/2020 - DBV2 v1 TBB turbo install time along with dp, RacingLine turbo inlet elbow, and custom UM tune. First pull on the dyno showed little headroom left on my walboro with full e85. Second pull at 16psi I was out of fueling. Turns out I ended up with a 305 walboro, time for plug and play setup from Innovative Motorsports, no wiring splicing necessary.

Have you installed the club sports yet? I just picked up a set. I had initially ordered Ohlins, but there were production delays so I changed my order.

I’m installing them next week. I have a set on my MKV R32 so I’m familiar with them.

I’m thinking about removing the top mounts that come with them and using my vorshlag plates instead. I saw you had Superpro mounts, I guess you are not using those given that they aren’t adjustable.

Is there a specific reason you want to swap?

The KW plates are some of the nicest on the market, they make no noise at all, very compliant.

No reason in particular. I’ll probably end up selling the Vorshalg ones here if I don’t use them.

When were you tuned on UM? I heard they are no longer tuning DBV2 turbos.

It’s been a few months, pretty happy so far, plenty of power on track. I was able to keep up some real hardware a few weeks ago

how are the R4 front pads on track? just got mine delivered for use as dedicated track pads, too.

They feel good, decent coefficient, I think they’re perfect with stock turbo. I feel like I could use some more brake with my new hybrid/flex setup on high speed straight to slow turns. Slow to medium speed turns they feel good. I’ll be tracking with them again on 1/9 so I should have more info by then.

Any reason you run 19s for the track instead of 18s?

I will say they do look fantastic.
