Auto Headlights and Rain sensor retrofit

Hello,

Also trying to do this to my '17 GTI Sport. I recently changed the windshield and added the light/rain sensor, have an auto HL switch, and bought the wiring harness from Kufatec. My question is where does the Kufatec wiring plug into the BCM? I thought I had a link showing it, but can't find it now.

Normally if you check your documents when logged in, they'll have posted install docs for their harnesses after you purchase them. Do you not see one? I ordered the fog light retrofit harness, and it came with a single separate blue wire to connect the LDS to the BCM for the fog pin on the switch. I would assume their harness for light/rain would have the same, but do not know for sure.

Here's my guess at the internal wiring of the rotary light switch on a MQB platform vehicle (the wiring external to the light switch is from VW - and yes, "J519" = BCM):

Thanks! I'm also tryin to add the wiring harness so that I can power my auto dimming mirror. I have the wiring harness 39980 from BKS. Do you happen to know which pins the two connectors go into the BCM? I figure the round connector is a ground(earth)?

OK. so I'm dense. My auto dimming mirror is the VW one which connects in line to the headlight switch. So nothing to wire up there, it's all plug and play.

And, I bought my wiring harness from BKS Tuning, not Kufatec, and I cannot find any installation instructions on the BKS website.

Does anyone know what I need to connect to where on this wiring harness from the rain/light sensor? It has one round terminal, which I'm guessing is for ground. Then, one wire has a smaller factory type terminal and the other a larger factory type terminal. I'm guessing one goes to a pin on the BCM and the other to the fuse box? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Also have an extra cable to go from Pin 2 on the HLS to terminal 16 on the BCM for CH/LH.

So I've installed the rain/light sensor and ran the wiring down to the fusebox/BCM area. Installed the wiring into connector C28 of the BCM and did the ground/power connection as well. Also had to run the wire from PIN2 of the HLS to C16 on the BCM. Auto headlights now turn on/off and work well. However, I am getting an error message for a lighting system fault on the dash. I scanned it and it is code B126A29 Implausible signal from the HLS.

So, I figure I need to let the BCM know now that there is a light/rain sensor installed. I have a VAG-COM, but have never used it to code before. Is there a step by step guide anywhere to do this? I think I would also need to activate auto wipers and CH/LH while I'm at it.

To register the RLS with the BCM (note this sensor is in fact a LIN slave module to the BCM) - do this:

Fire up VCDS software and connect to cable/dongle - click on Select

Click on 09-Cent. Elect.

Click on Security Access - 16

Enter the magic number 31347 - and press Do It!

Click on Adaptation - 10 (in the screen above)

Enter "ENG141985" into search box

Select IDE08786-ENG141985-Assistance light functions-Regen_Lichtsensor - change setting to LIN_REGEN_LICHT_SENSOR and press Do It!

Don

PS: I'm less sure that the steps above will address the "B126A29" error - I suspect that you might need to also change the adaptation channel ENG141656-ENG141992-Außenlicht_uebergreifend-LDS_mit_AFL to Yes - in the BCM. This tells the BCM that you ran a wire from PIN2 on the "HLS" (which is actually called the "LDS") to C16.

so i am having a similiar issue. I am Retrofitting the RLS in a mk7 golf with a highline bcm and all my lights work except i am getting the vehicle lighting fault on my dash and the indicator lights on the dash flash twice as fast as the lights outside when signaling. i have changed IDE08786-ENG141985-Assistance light functions-Regen_Lichtsensor - change setting to LIN_REGEN_LICHT_SENSOR , but when i try to find ENG141656-ENG141992-Außenlicht_uebergreifend-LDS_mit_AFL it doesnt show up under 09 central electronics. I have the wiring following the euro light switch wiring guide, all wires from the switch are properly routed. my only possible issue is using the mini fuse tap to fuse 8. when i look at the errors this is what shows up:

@carbon_geko: The reason for your difficulty is because your mk7 has the older style BCM with has a non-zero long-code string. On these older BCM, the facility that tells the BCM that a rotary light switch with an AUTO position is on Byte 17, Bit 5.
Your BCM has the following long-code string:

Code_String to Byte_list convert
ByteHexadecimal ValueBinary Value
00000000000
10000000000
21800011000

So, as you can see - Byte 17 has the value hex08. Set this Byte according to the screenshot blow:

Thank you for the reply, just to confirm does that mean I have no LIN and so I should not have byte 6 light sensor selected? Also are there any adaptions that need to be modified? I have the vehicle light fault still on my dash after modifying byte 7.

@carbon_gecko : Byte 6, Bits0-1 on the BCM should be set to LIN_REGEN_LICHT_SENSOR , which has the value xxxx xx10.

I'm surprised to read in your post that your BCM has the adaptation channel IDE08786-ENG141985-Assistance light functions-Regen_Lichtsensor. Normally when these older BCMs have a non-zero long-code string, this channel is absent (because it duplicates the software switches in Byte 6). So it's really strange that your BCM has both facilities!!!

Just to confirm, your BCM is coded for incandescent headlight lamps - is this correct? Also, how did you code the new RLS/RLHS/RLFS module (meaning what is the long-code string value for the LIN slave module)?

Okay so I have Byte 6 set , the bcm is upgraded to a highline which might be why it has some adaptions lines. the rlhss is coded 0038DD. The auto lights seem to work even though the fault won't clear. The rain sensor is sporadic when set to interval (one wipe a minute, seven wipes the next, none for 4 minutes even though it is moderate to heavy rain) the dash indicators blink twice as fast as the actual turn signals and show errors. I bought a new sensor 5Q0-955-547-B hopefully this will correct most issues. Also I need to recheck fuses.

OK: when you install 5Q0-955-547 module, perhaps these VCDS screens will be useful?

Yes hopefully, actually I have come to realize that while I have the errors currently the sensor is working. The quality of the sensor is poor so while I have the wiper blade set to interval I have to press the sensor to the glass for it to register and wipe. The auto lights are set way to dark like 8pm at night to register. As for humidity, I have been un able to get it to activate by itself even after fogging up the front windscreen.
