Austin Wheel for Rotary Wheel

Hi Everyone,

This is my first post, and I am ready to order my first-ever VW. I want an SE with Performance Pack (PP).

I had a few questions, specifically about fitting these genuine VW wheels straight from the factory.

The dealership told me they "don't do that", and said the only way is take a stock GTI with the standard 18" Austins, and switch them out at the dealership. This would mean having an extra set of wheels + labor cost for installing the 18" Rotary Wheels.

Since the PP isn't even out, my hope is to put down a deposit, and have VW build the car when the PP is available, with the 18" Rotary Wheels already installed. It seems silly to have the car built with stock 18" Austins, ship the car to the dealership, remove the stock tires, and then install the VW 18" Rotary Wheels.

So I had a few questions regarding the various potential scenarios (in descending order of preference):

  1. In your experience, can I have the car built by VW according to my specs?
  2. If the 18" Austins must be installed, would I be able to receive a wheel "credit", to help offset the price of the 18" Rotary Wheel?
  3. If I had two sets of wheels, how easy would it be to sell the the stock Austins, and how much is the going price?

Thanks for any help you guys can provide!

1. no. i bought vw oem rims. paid to have them switch wheels out. only $60 for that. balancing included.

your dealer might work with you though. doubt it though. lame i know.

2. no. i still have the stock mk6 wheel 'detroits.' holding on to them for when i sell my car. thinking the buyer might want those over my oem karthoums. will sell whichever the buyer doesn't want.

3. easy. for the right price. just like anything. but, i think right now the austins are probably to the buyer's advantage. lot's of people doing what you want to do. look on vwvortex, craigslist, etc to get an idea on pricing and availability. you'll get something for them. especially if you get them taken off right away. no scratches/etc.

unfortunately i think you will take a hit on price. but, again maybe your dealer might be willing to work w/you.

good luck!

ps i like the vw oem rotary wheels. good choice.

Really depends on the dealer. With my Mk5 Rabbit, I was able to get them to switch the stock Performance Package rims with Denvers that they just so happened to have in stock WITH tires already.

With my Mk7 GTI, I'll keep the Austins with OE tires for the typical Vancouver days but treat myself to some TSW Nurburgrings with P Zero summers for the non-typical Vancouver days (i.e. Sunny)
