My LED's arrived today. The mirror caps were only shipped yesterday , so the wait continues.

Yeah. Remove the glass, then push down two little tabs and while doing some wiggling. OEM caps tend to have really good plastic - they'll bend a fair bit without snapping, but with that said, I wouldn't do it at -10°C.

Well, I pulled the trigger (finally) but I didn't go with a package.

Nothing is due until mid-March, so it'll be awhile before I report back with any news.

I went this way vs. the kit as the parts were $50 cheaper when bought separately. I guess I'll find out in 7 weeks if it was worth it or not...

Shit, I never bothered to look at the kit you posted. They have black caps. I'm not really liking the matte chrome caps.

Ive only seen chrome, matte chrome and black. So as far as i know there isnt a seller making color matched caps.

I was getting some door handles (KESSY rear door retrofit) painted and brought in the mirror caps to get done as well and the paint guy said the edge around where the LED sits would be the problem - the paint would create an edge there and eventually start chipping. So yeah - I think you can have any color you like, provided it's black (or white or chrome).

If the LED wasn't already in the cap, maybe you could get it painted properly (?). I don't know the thickness of the paint / clear coat and whether or not that would allow the LED to be properly seated in its cut-out with the paint there.
