Area Surrounding Sunroof

I've seen a couple of posts here regarding the (plastic?) area around the sunroof. But they didn't address my question exactly. On my 2016 this area has a matte almost carbon fiber type of surface to it. It's not smooth like the rest of the car/roof. I was wondering what would be the right way to detail this. In particular, is it an area that should be buffed with compound/polish like the rest of the surfaces? If it's supposed to look different that's fine, I just don't want to hurt it by trying to get it to a glossy shine.

It's just glossy black trim (like the door pillar trim) and can be polished. I wouldn't go too aggressive on it though

I just clay barred and waxed mine just like the rest of the car.
