Are prepaid maintenance plans transferable

I just purchased a 2015 GTI SE from the original owner this past weekend and he said he purchased the prepaid matinence plan from the selling dealer (Reeves in Tampa) that covered the 10k/20k/30k/40k and I believe 50k service.

The car has 34k mile currently and my question is, does this matinence plan go along with the car? Does it stay with the vin? Only stay with the original owner? Is there possibly a transfer fee like on some extended warranty companies? If it stays with the original owner, can he cancel it and be prorated for the unused 40k and 50k service?

If anyone has experience in this topic, please let me know as the guy I purchased it from is local and said he would be willing to help me get it transferred if possible. If not, I would rather he get some of his money back than the dealer profit from unused services. And yes, I did try to call both the selling dealer and another VW across town to ask and both gave me different answers (one maybe and one probably not; both dealers taking my info and saying they would check and get back to me.... and never did.)

Thanks in advanced and look forward to getting back in the community after selling my Jazz Blue 20th AE about 7 years back.

The plan stays with the VIN and it can be used by the new owner. It cannot be cancelled unless the vehicle is totaled. I went through the same things when i sold my GTI recently.

Thanks. Do you know if it has to be done at the selling dealer, or would any franchise VW dealer honor the scheduled interval service?
The maintenance plan attaches to the car's VIN and is in the computer.

I don't know if there is any documentation that you get that describes what is covered but you don't really need it.

Any VW dealer in the country will be able to pull up your plans with your VIN. You can contact VW customer care and confirm the plans attached to your vehicle as well.

I bought the plan from a dealer in Georgia and had no problem taking it to my local dealer. To the best of my knowledge there are only 2 plans, 10/20/30, and 40/50. So if you're sure you have 40 I think you also have 50.

It depends how much you pay for the plan if it's a good deal. I got it for I think $279. It includes a Haldex oil change and a DSG oil/filter change which makes it's a better deal. Get the plan(s) for the right price and it's worth it - to you. The dealer, not so much. Buy from one dealer cheap and take it to another you make out. But the selling dealer makes the profit and the servicing dealer gets stuck with what VW pays them.

For me it was well worth it, since I got the plan at a discount and have DSG and AWD. You really need to get the plan(s) at a good discount and have DSG and Haldex. And it's not like it's going to cost less for service in 3-5 years. Just be sure you're going to keep the car.

What’s the DSG service running these days? Been a while since I’ve had that done.

The 40/50 plan is just for that service I assume? Doesn’t cover the prior 10 - 30k oil changes right?

Almost hate to ask this one, but do oil changes or DSG service put you at risk of TD1 flag? I’m not clear on when they scan you.

just wondering if it is a VW plan or a 3rd party plan. That is an important detail you need to find out.

I haven't had one done lately either. I read where you can get to the filter from underneath now instead of removing the battery tray.

40 covers oil service, DSG, cabin filter at 40K or 4 years.
50 covers oil service, brake fluid at 50K or 5 years.
You need to buy the 10/20/30 for those intervals. AFAIK, you can buy 10/20/30 and 40/50 separately. I'm waiting until I get closer to 4 years before seeing what the 40/50 costs. Even the dealer I bought the 10/20/30 from recommended that.
