APR vs EQT

EQT > APR

It's not even close in my eyes... Like others have said even if power were dead even EQT just because of the customer service and quality of work. Ed Susman bends over backwards for his customers and has continually developed excellent parts for this platform (MQB) on top of running his shop and tuning cars basically 24/7. Join the EQT FB group, you'll get the answers to any questions you have and more.

I could speak negatively about APR and how they interact (poorly), but it's unnecessary lol.

You all are definitely making the best argument for the AP/EQT combo.

Again, thanks for the real world feedback. There just seem to be so many positives in going the EQT route. Plus, as many have mentioned, the potential for expansion is in the hands of the end user. Gotta love that.

I'm thinking I'll begin with Stage 1 and the DSG tune. Then most likely move to Stage 2 as I incorporate a downpipe (will go catted, but I'm assuming it's "dealers choice" in terms of brand). Not sure if I would ever have the need to go ProTune, but it's nice to have that option if I went with a bigger turbo or something later down the road. In terms of the numbers, I think Stage 1 will honestly be sufficient, but you know how it is, at some point, POWER is POWER...!!!

I second what @DallasDub94 said. And I guarantee you that when you get stage 1 it will take about a week and you'll want stage 2.

EQT no questions, you can do remote tunes custom with EQT if you ever do more mods so it could grow with you much better, and their EQT base tunes are better anyway, plus when/if you ever sell the car you can resell the COBB and you can't resell your APR tune, so it's both better and cheaper.

I had EQT tune my car and Ed is a wizard. I used to tune my own cars on other platforms and I am extremely picky with my tunes and my cars, and Ed's EQT tune is PERFECT which i've literally never said before about any car tune. I'm just happy he even spent the time to learn to tune MK7 platform, vast majority of cars in his shop when they were working on my car were 1,000+ HP GTRs that cost $200k+ and more than a few turbo porsches and other really high end fancy stuff. was cool to see my family hatchback on the lift next to crazy high end exotics.

even if all of the above were not true, I'd go with EQT anyway just because customer service from EQT is outstanding and APR does not seem like has good customer service. so if you have any issues at all, with APR you're basically on your own where as EQT will be helpful

Ed's DSG tune alone transformed my car, even outside of performance all the little stuff like how the car takes off from a stop feels better, and I swear the car even idles better on the EQT COBB tune that it did even stock. seems smoother and just runs better all around, and then the shifts and how/when it shifts and how quickly and how it holds gears just all massive improvement

Also,, I would be suprised if APR + made 290 hp, I mean if they say that is what it makes, I guess it has too right? or else you could sue them idn

I don't think 290 is an unreasonable claim, especially when you factor in that VW underrates stock output from the factory. The Plus tune does boost up to 7psi more than OEM.

I'm not interested in dynoing my car to find out, but I will say there is a definitely noticeable power bump vs standard, verified by improved dragy times.

Where did you learn that is the reason?

Common sense. They don't sell tunes direct to the public so they rely on their dealer network for sales. Piss off the dealer network by selling direct to the public and their sales go down.

well i guess it is apr stg 1 tune, the plus is only a warranty and states you can only use like 1 or apr items or it voids warranty. so i guess it makes sense

Makes a lot of sense for APR because they sell more products then.

Are you DSG? I'd be interested to get together next time I'm in Tampa to compare APR+ and Cobb stg1.
