APR Stage 2 no clutch upgrade

Ok so I'm considering a Stage 2 tune on my 2017 GTI without upgrading the clutch first. I've been spying on threads relating to this. It just decided to make my own to help out future people who are curious.

I have had a jb1 early on in the cars life around 2500-3000 miles, removed it at 4000 miles. The car is now at 8200 miles and I have never experienced clutch slip on the car in general.

Now my plan is to upgrade via clutch masters because I'd like to keep my DMF because I'm a fan of dual mass as it is. I don't peel out, or rev abnormally high before shifting so would this upgrade be feasible? I wanted to take advantage of the sale APR has going on while I can, then upgrade the clutch in about a month or two using my current dual mass flywheel. Your consideration is much appreciated!

why don't you get new dmf when you install new clutch?

You can get a new clutch that makes use out of your stock DMF. When you purchase a southbend clutch it comes with a SMF. You can purchase a clutch masters kit that makes use of your stock DMF but it replaces your clutch obviously.

Obviously I could always purchase a new DMF but I haven't had a single issue with my stock DMF so I might as well use it if I can.

I was Stage I with stock clutch no problem. One year later or so upgraded to stage II with stock clutch but by then I was buying the pieces I would need to install a TTRS clutch kit. At the end I kept my flywheel and everything is fine now but with stage II your clutch will fail for sure it's a matter of time.
If you want to keep your DMF change the clutch the sooner the better.

Yeah that's what I kind of figured.

I'm FBO and no issues with my clutch. I've been jb1 since about 1k miles, added DP around 2k and now almost have 18k on the car. Never any hints of slip.

I was debating upgrading it when I put on the is38 but I'm going to put the turbo on just to test the limits of the stock clutch.

Yeah I never had a clutch slip when I had my jb1 either. But it's different when you decide to go Unitronic or APR.

Well don't mash it on the 3000rpm torque spike and power should be similar. I made 290whp on just jb1/dp in 90° heat and comparing it to an ED stage 2 car on the same dyno (in cooler weather), aside from the higher torque spike about 3500-4500rpm it was similar torque. It had about a 20-25wtq difference in those rpms and now with my jb4 and other mods, I have no doubt it's similar. I just don't WOT below ~4000rpm and I roll into boost

There are better tunes then APR out there for the MK7. APR's reputation on the gen3 ea888 (MQB 1.8 & 2L engines) hasn't been a good one...

United Motorsports and GIAC are both really high on my list for the tune when the time comes :)

United Motorsports has been interesting to me honestly. Back when I owned my MK5 I never heard of it so I kinda wrote them off when I first heard about it.
